The Glamour options FFXIV needs: Glammable hairstyles and facial features!

Hi everybody!

After finishing my current glam it once again hit me:

We can not glam to the fullest without being able to glam hairstyles and -colors along with facial cosmetics. In fact glamming as a fun activity for creative character expression is severely diminished by this.

The reason is simple: the way your overall glam looks is massively influenced by your choice in hairstyle and facial features.

Here's an example:



My Gunbreaker glam along with a fitting combination of hairstyle and markings in my estimation, it goes well with the vibe of an industry worker.

But then when I switch to my Samurai glam, oh my god! Pure catastrophe:



The pigtails not only horribly clip, the bangs also block the view of the headpiece and the hairstyle overall is neither thematically nor shape-wise appropriate for this glam anymore, same with the soot stains.

If along with changing your glam you could also change those cosmetic features as well, this would be amazing:

What the lack of such a glam option currently leads to in practice for many people is they either

1. use a combination which fits their main and then are willing to look worse than they could with any other glam OR

2. they compromise by using just a generic hairstyle and makeup selection for every glam, which doesn't achieve the possible greatness of a more refined style for each glam OR

3. they glam exclusively such gear which inherently fits their choice of barbershop options or use helmets to hide their hair and faces, severely limiting their options.

There might even be people who run to the barber every time they change their glam, which would be incredibly annoying!

Those are all tradeoffs which hurt the joy of glamming, compromises which need not be made ! IF we had a system to glam those parts of our characters as well naturally.

There are some ways to go about implementing this feature but the most sympathetic one to me would be this:

Introduce a new option at the barber! In addition to just the makeover for the price of 2,000 Gil you may also have Jandelaine store the look in a prism for you for the price of 20,000 Gil and a Glamour Prism (or both for the combined cost).



You can then slot in this special prism to your glam plates:



As you can see I put a little roman numeral to distinguish between multiple of those items. The info could be found in the item description as well.

It seems like an intuitive solution to me, one which doesn't exclude the barber NPC or a Gil sink.

As far as I'm aware there is no lore reason why we shouldn't be able to alter our features with glam like that at least I hope there isn't!

This is perhaps my number 1 requested feature! What do you all think?

That's never going to happen lol. I'm pretty sure there's something in the code for how character models are saved that would prevent a real time swap like that. There's a reason the barber loads you into the character creation screen.

An actual solution would be to allocate resources to fixing the technical issue and I would personally be all for it!

Additional hairstyles are no solution at all unfortunately

What do you mean exactly? Do you have to go to him every time you switch gearsets? I think that is not a worthy presence for an NPC - to be linked to an annoyance.


(I assume you read the thread and know that Jandelaine is still involved every time you need a new aesthetician prism.)
