Hello Everyone!I am a studying animation student at the Unversity of the Arts in Philadelphia. I am originally from southern California.
As an example of the different texture required, look at the difference between these two videos:

That's not an effect you get just my changing the shader you're using.
So long as it'd be optional and has no effect on the rest of the game graphically/aesthetically without it, I'm okay with it - I don't like cell-shaded effects.

I'd love it if someone could find a way to do this, I remember a plugin for 11's windower that had this effect was awesome lolz :P
Sad that I've only been able to (sort of) replicated through ghetto/ameteurish video processing >.> eg

I rather they try for the moving painting/ concept art than to have hard lines. And we're already so close to looking like our concept art already. so no worries here.

I do love cell shading, but I'm not sure it would be appropriate for this game.
We already know the new engine will be comparable for low to high end PC's. No real sense in spending more time on stylistic settings that where not in mind with the development. The only way they could pull it off would be with certain shaders that would actually be a larger draw on the system.
Still, points for creativity.

Leave the cell shading to the pros at Level 5.

Selfish reasoning, but please don't. Cell shading gives me a headache and it's the reason I can't complete Skyward Sword even though goddamn I adore that game.

There's no evidence that adding cell shading would put less strain on the CPU and/or GPU. It would possibly lower the amount of video RAM used but that's about it.
