    FFXIV and Cell Shading

    Cell shading could be a perfect option to choose from for FFXIV for those players who cannot play the game on higher graphic but would still like a great orientation of the game.
    By choosing a Cell Shading option you can lower GPU strain and CPU strain with a controlled number of Edge Detection.
    The game can still look rich in a Cell Shaded environment there is absolutely almost no waste time just adding an option for cell shading from Camera's point of view in the graphic option FFXIV already uses the Edge Threshold it's most activated when a character is highlighted it receives the yellow highlight of edge aura.

    The Pros and Cons

    The Pros -
    With this the camera only renders what the user sees.

    Less Strain on the rendering system overall performance.Using Cell Shading can also achieve a higher ambient of shading which can make the game look fantastic.

    The Cons -

    It's an option but Several people may not like the Cell Shading because of its cartoon feel its really cartoon looking with colors.

    The system still needs to stream those textures but I'm sure FFXIV has a kill order.

    That's pretty much it . I could give up names of other games but just look up Cell Shading games on Google you'll see some . I came up with the idea from one of the 2.0 Dragoon screenshot which really did looked like it could have been rendered in Cell shading an still looked awesome. If you don't know what Cell Shading is look it up befor disagree and remember it's just an option for low end if don't want to activate Cell Shading they don't need to.

    I might be ignorant on the subject, but I didn't think Cell Shading == Back-face Culling.

    As far as I know Back-face Culling is only used for edges in Cell-shaded models.

    it's also kinda a known thing that cell shading is harder on processors than any other kind of "graphic effect"...

    I am also a 3d modeler, and a professional graphic designer as well.

    You cannot slap a canned toon shader effect on a game and expect it to look professional. And SE's flagship franchise has some of the highest graphics expectations in the industry. It would never get past QA - especially after learning their lesson over the fiasco that was the 1.0 release.

    In order to do cel/toon shading properly, and up to FF standards, they would have to put in an immense amount of work .

    The game already has a Pseudo cell shaded look to the character rendering.

    Edge detection is done through shaders but that doesn't give you a Cell shaded look if you're using photo-realistic textures.

    It also doesn't reduce the amount that is drawn, it will have not positive impact on performance at all.
