I mean other than trashing their own lore, they have been steadily repeating Blizzard's missteps with WOW, it would follow suit at least

Don’t think of it that way, think of it has expanding on the lore and enhancing it further. Much in the way they did in Endwalker. If that was acceptable, then so too is adding some Garlean customization options.
