    SE removing card payments for Steam users again. Without informing anyone.

    11 days ago I was able to make optional item purchases using a Debit Card. Today I am no longer able to.

    What changed?
    I have no idea.

    And after spending an hour going back and forth with support about why I couldn't. The only answer they'd give me is that "Steam wallet is intended for steam registered games."

    Steam registered account. Which I had no say in when they separated windows and steam licenses. Meaning you could only have one. When I owned both on that account anyway.

    This is unacceptable SE. Stop taking away options from steam users just because we own the game through steam. Why do I have to log in 3 times with different credentials to 2 sites just to buy something worth £0.58. And in doing so am forced to overpay by £3.42 just because steam won't allow me to only spend £0.58.

    Instead, I have to have money sitting in my steam wallet that I never wanted to spend that I now can't use.

    Seriously Square Enix. I love your game but either let people switch version from steam or just give us the ability to pay by card back. If my sub renewal fails, this month because SE randomly decided to deny me the option to use a Card for my sub and i have to do it manually every month I'm going to be beyond disappointed.

    Option 3 just put a version of the store on steam so we can buy stuff with cards through steam.
    Woe betides anyone who has a card Mogstation accepts but Steam doesn't, I guess.

    I would post pictures as proof that 11 days ago I could use a card no problem but i've nowhere to upload them.

    It's a browser caching issue.


    Clear your browsers cache.

    SE didn't remove anything.

    I took it up with them as to why I couldn't. And all they'd tell me is it was intended to only be restricted to steam wallet so I don't think it's my cache.

    It is. They misunderstood your question.

    This comes up every so often, it's always a cache issue. You can try a different browser right now and it'll give you all the other options.

    I cleared it and it worked. Thankfully.

    So thank you for actually being helpful where Square support itsn't.

    I asked them 4 separate times why the payment option would vanish. If they misunderstood it 4 times. When someone here could understand it immediately then the quality of SE support has really gone downhill.

    This comes with a new complaint though as to why on earth is the Online Store so susceptible to caching issues. That apparently the support team don't even know happens so never suggest doing it.

    Not the first time a random poster on the forums can answer it better than actual SE support, really makes you question if its even worth having a support option at all if it's either wrong or non inexistant

    I'm not saying all support is bad. There are questions they get a lot and are used to finding an answer for.

    But it's people who applied for a job that involves pasting template answers to get a paycheck vs people on a forum who go out of their way to find an actually effective answer for you, using their knowledge of the game and google searches to find out how other people solved it without technical support.

    I think that's why SE even allows us to post in the support forums, because they know that sometimes we'll just have an answer that doesn't fall within their standard routine.

    To be fair, we don't have the original query to Support nor an exact idea how the problem was actually described. It's all well and good to complain, but if the question was "Why can't I use my debit card for purchases? Yes, my account is through Steam" the answer in the script is that payments for Steam accounts should use the Steam Wallet.

    The OP didn't know about the problem with the browser cache, and questions like that do not take the browser being used into account, for good reason.

    Glad to see the issue was resolved the old-fashioned way. Through the forums.

    All support is like this. I have enterprise support for server hardware ask me things like "did you try unplugging it for a bit first?" Its just how things are.

    You'd be surprised at how many people actually don't try things like that. Or think that doing something is the same as that, when it's not. My brother used to be IT for a doctor's office and he'd ask the "have you tried turning it off and on again" question and they'd say yes, but the computer says it's been on for days without a restart. He restarts the computer and the issue is resolved. With computers, it's amazing how many things can be fixed by simply restarting the computer.
