Its really no different from "that program" and its pretty close to the actual parse. They are never going to give us an in game parser for honestly really good reasons. I don't have a problem with parsers and I think the program people use is perfectly fine, but I have seen how negatively they impact end game in other MMO's. SSS is fine, you don't actually need a parser for this game.

I find the sheer idea of this even being an interaction in this game asinine. If someone is insane enough to care, they are already either running ACT, have a friend doing so or are literally stalking logs online that someone may have put up about them.

Like, let's be realistic, what would "link numbers" even do? Striking dummy numbers? Death count included? It lacks any and all context, it is literally just a damage meter meant for personal gauging, so a novice could at least get a rough idea if whatever the f*** he is doing is actually doing more than the last thing he did.

This isn't the first time and won't be the last time Yoshida had a different take on a topic that many disagreed with. A personal damage meter is literally only beneficial - if the community behaves like a bunch of douches, the Harrassment Report is only a few clicks away, literally the same thing as currently.

Addendum to my post (I'm intentionally not editing):

I may have forgotten to consider how passive-aggressive the JP community may be. On many occasions when Yoshida has said "please don't be so mean to the devs" they meant the JP side. Knowing they also have public blacklists and some absurd levels of social norms, I can definitely see an issue by the JP playerbase treating it like this.

From everything I've heard about the JP community...yeah, I can see it.

The fact that it's a dummy indicates that it's nowhere near anything "close to an actual parse". And there are no good reasons to not have parsers in game

SSS parses are completely valid and there are more than enough reasons to not have an in game parser. 100% if they added one in the game PF's would demand a certain dps number and would put even more stigma on certain jobs for no reason whatsoever. Its already bad enough with people in PF putting ilvl requirements waaaaay above the ilvl even needed for fights. The last thing we need is people setting dps requirements that would 100% be higher than the needed dps to clear or people getting kicked from old dungeons because they dare not to keep up with the overgeared player. I've seen more than my fair share of crap from toxic people in WoW. We don't need that here, especially since a parser is really not necessary in this game.

Then again, I just realized I'm arguing with the same person who thinks MCH should remain trash because its "easy" to play, so arguing with you is a waste of time.

SSS parses are...questionable at best, for more than a few reasons. They are good for a number of things; practicing an opener for instance, due to the ability to quickly set all your abilities on cooldown. They cease being useful at a point both because they are just a dummy and because they have a hard stop at 3 minutes; this prevents a job from being able to practice a full rotation up to 4 or even 6 minutes.

EDIT: That site, btw? It used a parser to get the information it uses to calculate your HP, since nothing in-game tells you how much HP an enemy has.

This makes them a good gauge of DPS for a 3 minute fight, but it means that beyond that scope it's not very useful at all especially when mechanics are added in.

100% if they added one in the game PF's would demand a certain dps number and would put even more stigma on certain jobs for no reason whatsoever.
For one, job discrimination already happens. PLD and WAR were kept out so hard that SE had to buff them. For two, any actual harassment performed would, just as it is now, be a bannable offense.

This just seems like whining to me, honestly. People have and will always be choosy about who they go into hard content with, and whatever else FireMage has said, he is right that that selectivity already happens with FFLogs.

That's also ignoring that the request was for a dps tracker, not for an FFLog equivalent. Only way they'd know your past damage would be through already available means. You'd have to already be in and running for a dps tracker to see your current damage.

people getting kicked from old dungeons because they dare not to keep up with the overgeared player.
I doubt this would happen in DF. If the goal is speed, kicking someone no matter who objectively makes the run slower. You'd see a rise in DPS whining in Tales from DF possibly, though.
I've seen more than my fair share of crap from toxic people in WoW. We don't need that here, especially since a parser is really not necessary in this game.
And I've seen 10 years of people jumping at every possible shadow that toxicity could creep in that they've become toxic to gatekeep out any element they could consider toxic. This is how we get the GCBTW effect.

Then again, I just realized I'm arguing with the same person who thinks MCH should remain trash because its "easy" to play, so arguing with you is a waste of time.
Not saying anything about that, but geeze dude that's a bit irrelevant innit?

Just saying something doesmt make it so. People already kick bads based on fflogs alone. Demanding competency and not being a waste of a slot isn't and never will be toxic. Also way to put words in my mouth, MCH should be lowest alomg with SMN yes, but higher than what it currently is, but hey ignoring facts is something that someone with no ground to stand on does
