I haven't really seen this happen to the extent you're describing in the MMOs you mentioned. Are you sure you aren't stereotyping?

I've seen it many times in WoW, myself. It was quite hard to ignore, as people did it all the time and were jumping unrealistically high as they traveled places. It was the first thing I noticed when I played the game.

Oh yeah? Interesting evaluation you have there. I play Aion, and other free to play mmo and I don't see it happen at all. I don't understand your fear and hatred if you see one person jumping carefree without a care in the world. Its not like they're forcing you to watch them bounce. lol

I for one, am glad the Developers have asked for our opinions.

I have to say reading thru the replies after Okipiut posted have been interesting. I also have to say though that I would love jump to be for exploration purposes only. Even with cooldown, I don't want to see this added to combat. The thought of being able to get additional achievements exploring though....awesome!

Seems like an evaluation to me. You only played said games for a bit and then quit. Your post is jam packed with contradictions, and invalid assumptions. Yes you said others hated it, but never actually said YOU hated it, but your choice of words does mean it because you claim you saw it often and it forces you to quit... That was my point, and you just help proven it more.

I'd say you misinterpreted then, and you're trying to put words in my mouth.
1. "Game," not "games." I said it was WoW.
2. My post contains no contradictions, or assumptions, only observations. I try hard never to assume things.
3. I've seen others say they hated it. That's called an observation. It says nothing about myself, and I did not state an opinion on the matter.
4. You are assuming that I quit because I saw people jumping? I stated that I played for a while and then I quit. I didn't say why.

The only purpose jump should have in the game is in the environment. Oh hello 2ft ledge / ramp / step / rock i could easily step or jump over you but i cannot and must travel the 40 hour journey way around.

The biggest thing that drew me to FFXI was the medieval feel the game gave me with that touch of fantasy in the right areas. Iv played alot of other MMOs and there is just too much fantasy and no touch of a potential reality. I can see the same in FFXIV with the crafting, the lore and the mechanics of things are done. Just make the jump that bit realistic. Give it a cool down that is fine. Let us jump on mounts but make it realistic. I like the idea of being able to jump / fall off ledges / bridges / cliffs but again make it that bit more realistic. Iv fallen easily 300ft in places in Wow and only had small bits of health taken off me. Make it so we can get off bridges and different levels within reason but the thoughts of climbing up a mountain like there was in Attowa Chasm in 11 and then being able to simply jump off is rediculous.

This idiocy is your opinion. People do it in those games because they have nothing better to do or just like to jump, it doesn't hurt anybody or effect anybody else playing the game in any negative way. So why even complain about it? For one we can't have mounts in town, two I kind of doubt mounts will be able to jump in this unless they have a get near edge proximity jump or something.

By the way I too said this should be restricted in town so it would appease the idiots who freak out over nothing because they are afraid that the game they do like will in some small way resemble a great game that they refuse to like because of childlike tendencies. Let people do what they want to do and worry about your damn self.
