There are no plans for using the jump for any elements of gameplay it’s just there for those that want to jump. You won’t be able to jump to avoid Ifrit’s attacks or anything.
Funny thing is, we can actually do that now!

But I guess jump is just a dumb gimmick/emote there to appease ppl.

Having Ifrit, Garuda and Moogles wandering around large zones will be very interesting... Will you fight them were you find them? Or will they teleport players to a battlefield to fight?

If we fight them in a large zone, these fights will likely be very different from what we see now.

Also, I am still a little concerned about the leveling content for 2.0. I think the masses aren't big fans of party grinding like us FFXI vets, and Leves weren't viewed favorably. How will people level? I think with the shift towards dynamic events like seen in Rift and included in GW2, party grinding and leve quests will be a tough sell to the general MMORPG community (which we need to attract some of to ensure the longevity of this game). I hope they either add some other mechanism for exping or do a really good job of building infrastructure (and tutorials) for helping novices setup parties and engage in levequests.

    Thoughts?
Hopefully, we will see leves get an overhaul in 2.0, but even if they are only tweaked - I don't think newer players will have the same opinion of them that 1.xx players do.

For my part, I hope we have leveling options that include killing large mobs with lots of HP (Great Buffalo, Morbols, Treants, etc). If they match the exp:time to our current chaining system, people will likely flock to the more interesting battles -- I know I will.

Your friend might be a bit late on that one.

But as a theory, it has some merits... However, depending on the amount of time that has passed between Dalamud's "impact" and the world of 2.0, it might have quite a few strange hiccups in the continuity vis-a-vis the existence of current NPCs in the 2.0 world (which will be a 99% certainty).

The question is, how do we go from where we are now - to a world that is completely overturned and then built up again (over years) and still has not just us, but Merlwyb, Cid, Yda, Curious Gorge, etc.?

It could be that Dalamud ends up hitting the planet in the past. Hey, maybe Dalamud is an echo itself... they have already established that this happened 50 years ago...

    eh, its for another thread.

I was thinking about something the other day. This isn't directed towards anyone, it's just funny - throwing some words out there lol. On the topic of jumping ruining immersion. Imagine, if you were say.. in a mall, in real life and everyone just started jumping and rolling around on the ground. At first you'd be like ok this is weird, but chances are you'd keep on walking and continue doing what you were doing. They're doing their own thing, spazzing out like morons. This is for the most part, not the end of the world.

I want to believe that the average player isn't going to just stand in one spot and jump all day. I mean they might but.. who really cares? that's their experience. People run around in subligars and pumpkin hats on a daily basis, but nobody cries BLOODY IMMERSION RUINED.

Oh and remember goobues? Yeah those guys. I gotta admit, goobues are goofy as hell. I for one thought they have their place in the game, but only as mobs, not mounts. Now that it's a couple of months down the road, I very rarely see people even using them. Most opt to just use their chocobo because it's just easier to see what's around your character.

I guess, I'm saying all of this to say. Your immersion will ALWAYS be ruined, not because of jumping. But because you are playing with other individuals, with unique personalities and dispositions. So to haters of jump I say, hate on! and to lovers of jump, i say jump on! and maybe we can coexist in this crazy online world.. somehow.

I totally agree. Sort of like BAMs from TERA. Same exp/per hour just bigger/stronger opponents that require some strategy.
