It's definitely a track for some type of train/cart. You can see it in the screenshot we posted near this in the write up on the site.
This was one texture in Thanalan on the ground that wasn't in any of the screenshots. This doesn't mean that other ground textures are finalized.
So it would seem that the client you seen showcased a perhaps more finalised version of the textures compared to what the press screen shots showed. Might be a little picky but perhaps you could tell us how they fall in comparison to current Thanalan textures? It's definitely a track for some type of train/cart. Incredibly picky =P
It wasn't necessarily the client that was more finalized from the screenshots shown. Think about it in terms of each area. They're still polishing the zones, some are better than others, and all are still affected by current state of the client.
The ground texture referenced in the write up was a texture that I don't think is currently in the game (type of stone block/pavement) so it's hard to compare. We thought it looked fine. It still all looked like Thanalan in regards to everything else though, the textures weren't drastically scaled down from what we could tell.
