I say: be creative with it. In combat, around obstacles, platforming, it all sounds good to me. Also, I'd like to die if I jump off a cliff. But there should be parachutes too.![]()
Hi Okipuit, I want jump to be useful for getting over obstacles. I'll like it to be useful in Dungeons as well, a little platforming wont hurt, it'll just add to more interesting and unique content. Falling damage should be considered too if you fall from to high places.
edit: Also will we get to jump while mounted on our Chocobo?

I don't think it should have any purpose in combat, but it would be great so we could use it to jump off ledges or drops to get to a lower level.

I feel it would be best implemented as a way to traverse the environment.
Combat it could have its uses, but would probably require a lot of balancing, and depend a lot on your connection to the server.
In any case, since they are unsticking us from the floor, I hope they make plenty of areas where you can fall to your death.
Like, Imagine fighting a Nannygoat at Horizon, in the middle sections of one of those.. Chasm?
Anyways, if that Nanny were to headbutt you and you fell off a ledge to your death..
It adds another level of depth to combat to have to worry about those things should they be relevant.

Mmm, it shouldn't be a common mechanic in battles, but I believe it would be fun to utilize this in boss fights or puzzles in dungeons. Can't say to be sure, but it doesn't look like 2.0 is built that if you jump off a cliff you die. If anything it definitely would be fun for puzzles, but if we were to do this for boss fights, the team would have to work some things around it to make it work.
Then again, we have fights like Titan in the future where he probably uses an ability that shakes the ground and makes your party members stagger for a moment. Would be cool if we used jump to time ourselves before he uses the attack and able to dodge it. Brings a slight bit more skill to the fight and makes the fight feel more interactive.

Definitely jumping over obstacles. Perhaps we can utilize this with terrain in the future. Dynamic boss fights that come in stages with terrain changes, or avoiding ground hazards should be the limitations. Also Spell cancelling is good in my book. That is it. Make it look tasteful and realistic.
Pretty much agree with the majority of folks who want jumping to stay out of combat, though I wouldn't mind the ability to jump on enemies in a Mario'esque fashion in some mini-game.

Not seeing a "majority of folks" wanting to keep it out of combat.
It "can be," but it doesn't have to be. Auto jumping sucks, takes freedom away from the player, and requires more programming and scripting. A reasonable jump height coupled with a cooldown means no "jumping around like that" or "bouncing constantly." Regardless, this thread isn't about whether you want jump or not. It's going to be in the game. The question at hand is what level of utility it should offer.Active jumping can be an eyesore (for those wanting a photorealistic game, who jumps around like that irl....?)
Action cancelling would be great, exploraiton would be great, evading certain specific kinds of attacks would be great. Evading normal attacks is a nono, that would have negative consequences for PvP in particular.
While I'm one of the few that didn't really want jumping to begin with, I would rather see it done right at least. In my opinion I really don't want jumping in battle, while the thought of jumping to avoid certain boss moves sounds appealing, it really doesn't sound like it would work that great. With server latency, you're really not gonna be able to dodge anything. But getting around obstacles would be fine. Just no crazy high jumping cause that's just silly and not in a good way lol.
I did like the idea however though that it could be used to help further explore certain areas, can't remember who mentioned it. like you only get so far then what's this?! At this ledge you get a ! bubble in your menu, little cs/load time BAM new little area. or something like that. Just as long as its not in battle. I REALLY don't want to incorperate jumping into my battles please ; ;
