    Installation Error

    Thread Title:
Installation errors starting in the initial install from the CD and failure occurring during update after re installing my OS

    Details:
I'll receive a number of "CRC Error: .... .DAT does not much" whenever I install. The actual files will vary each time I attempt to install. If I choose to ignore these errors during install I am able to the load the updater. The updater can successfully download the files, but when it begins to check and install the patch I'll receive errors: 20638 20641, and 20643 and the updater will close. Once I received Error: Catastrophic failure during install. I had the game successfully installed prior to re installing my OS.

    Steps:
I've taken the following troubleshooting steps already:

Confirmed firmware and drivers are all updated.

Attempted install via the CD multiple times.

Burned disc image and attempted install via clone drive.

Obtained disk image from another disk and attempted install via clone drive.

My laptop has the game successfully installed, attempted to swap the contents of the /Program Files/Square Enix folder from my laptop to my desktop after installing (with errors) but before update. Received same errors from updater.

    Date & Time:
I've been trying for about the last week. Lets say since 01 JUN 2012.

    Frequency:
    Everytime

    PC Manufacturer & Model Number:
Homebuilt Computer (All parts less than 2 months old)

    Operating System:
    Windows 7 (fully updated)

    Graphics Card:
    Radeon HD 6950

    CPU
    Intel i5 2500k

    Motherboard
    Z68 Extreme3 Gen3

SSD (Drive I'm using for install)
    Mushkin Chronos 120GB

This is a great game and I can't wait to jump back in. Any help or direction to where I could get some help is appreciated. Thanks

Are you right clicking the game icon and choosing "Run as administrator"? It Sounds like the program doesn't have rights to do the install.

Neekzz - thanks for the tip. I gave it a try using both an .iso and the CD. The CRC errors appeared to be less frequent, but unfortunately still present nonetheless.

I discovered Windows Malware Protection in msconfig and disabled it as well uninstalled any antivirus software temporarily. I received less CRC Errors and after ignoring them received either errors 20619 or 20638, 20641, 20643 when attempting to install updates. I checked my SDD with chkdsk (no errors) and checked my RAM with memtest86. RAM was full of errors! Will update if that was the fix when I get my new RAM through Corsair's RMA.

In the meantime, you can mitigate any further errors while waiting for the RMA process to go through before mailing them off. In your BIOS, can drop your ram speeds and raise voltages a bit. SHould offer a bit of additional stability for the time being.

Chozo thanks - I have successfully re installed the client! The RAM was unquestionably the issue. Great to finally have the issue resolved - thanks all.
