How much does do you need to feed an animal to keep its mood up? I feel like one will lose its entire mood in a day's time. Hiring the mammets doesn't seem to help. They feed them once a day but their mood still goes down.

I think mood drops one level a day?
Sweetfeed raises mood by 1 level, up to Content (level 3)
Greenfeed raises mood by 2 levels, up to Chipper (level 4)
Premium Greenfeed raises mood by 2 levels, up to Gleeful (level 5)
If you want to keep them at max happiness then you need to feed them Premium Greenfeed once a day.

Just to add on to what Espon said, if you feed them food with a lower mood cap than they're currently at, their mood will continue to deteriorate until they reach the cap. Ex: They're Gleeful and you feed them sweetfeed, their mood will continue to go down until they hit Content.

to add onto this, Greenfeed is the best if you want to maintain a semi-high mood without having to double your cost in veggies (greenfeed costs 2, whereas premium costs 4) and the difference between then is negligible enough because you aren't going to need a metric boatload of animal bits.I think mood drops one level a day?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that once you unlock the ability to entrust your animals to your mammets, you can mass produce the Greenfeed and be gone for days at a time without issue.

Greenfeed is output positive (2 items in for 3 items out)
Premium greenfeed is output negative (4 items in for 3 items out)
It's just easier to use regular greenfeed.
Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
I swear the developers of the game operate on moon logic. >_>

I think requiring multiple feedings to make them suitably happy is a bit excessive, especially when giving them the best feed available. Honestly, I would suggest just assigning a mammet to each animal in one's pasture, making enough feed to last until the sun devours the earth and call it a day. They can handle the rest, and all you have to do is show up every day to collect. It's relatively cheap, even with a full pasture, so long as the workshop always has projects in the pipeline.
