I posted this idea before when just thinking of ways to add potency, but upon the Yoshi-P skill tax revelation, I believe this is the way to go forward.
Wildfire right now remains the only ability in the entire game that doesn't scale with crit/direct hit buffs or even scale with the crit stat itself since it literally can't crit. This causes scaling issues that needed to be addressed even before the auto-crit change, and now just sticks out like a sore thumb. Make it like the PvP version, detonate it after 5 attacks and auto-crit for 800-900 potency.
As for Blast Charge = Communio, that's pretty self explanatory. Bring Blast Charge over from PvP and make castable during and immediately end Hypercharge while also having gaining Heat Blast's ogcd reduction effect. A 1-1.5 cast time with a 1.5 recast time ensures that you won't cancel the aftercast with an ogcd while keeping the current rotational cadence.
The end result of this is threefold: A fix to Machinist's scaling, a natural skillcap increase, and flair.
- Wildfire getting fixed is important for MCH to not fall behind every tier of gear.
- The Blast Charge change raises the skill ceiling of MCH by adding fail-states to Hypercharge: You can miss a Blast Charge cast, or accidentally end Hypercharge too early. By raising the skill ceiling, the gap between average and top dps naturally widens, allowing MCH to be buffed for higher tiers of play without dominating lower tiers.
- As for Flair, you just need to picture how the above two changes work out and then imagine the audio. Every two minutes you go *chk-chk* *BANG* damage *eeeeee-BOOM* DAMAGE!! from a Blast Charge->Wildfire detonation combo. With no oGCD animations to get in the way because of the cast time, you're allowed to visually soak in that double-tap damage. Plus, every Hypercharge is now punctuated with a satisfying shotgun effect by itself rather than just sort of fizzling out with an ogcd ability.
