I really enjoyed the articles in XI regarding the naming conventions! Looking forward to learning more about the other races/clans =)

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Yay, so from all my npc hunting, I got this mostly...except for the women.
So does marriage/heritage have any effect on lalafellen naming conventions, or does it not change their names, I assume? They don't...seem to keep up with surnames. I might be wrong there.
Considering apostrophes currently aren't a valid character for names...
but take a look around you'll notice that it seems only Seekers of the Sun(F'lhaminn, Y'shtola) have apostrophes in their names, where as Keepers of the Moon(Kehda Mujuuk, Rubh Epocan) tend to always have there full name shown.
<both Keeper of the Moon examples are at Mealvaan's Gate in Limsa Lominsa (4, 5 right by the ferry docks)>
I would really like to know the Keepers full naming conventions because of the examples I can find there isn't really much rules to it... (I'm a Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te myself)
by you picture would I be correct to assume you're a Seeker of the Sun?

I like knowing the lore behind the naming and such. Of course my character is one of those exceptions to the rules. I'm hoping one day though, that my character will be able to travel to her native land.
I liked the dropping of the Sil'dih reference.![]()
I completely forgot apostrophes weren't allowed, so yay for me I suppose. And yes, I am a seeker of the sun.Considering apostrophes currently aren't a valid character for names...

I like short names... so I won't be renaming Hiir to HiiHiiro Hiiro
Besides, looking at a name like that would get annoying to me and others...
But thanks for the information!
I hope the Developers consider letting us change our last names at least in version 2.0 if we choose a new race. I would hate to not be able to choose a fitting name if I choose one of the new races.
That's pretty neatGreetings RhenAshadi! It's my 200th post! (That's a lot of bugs...)
As 2.0 approaches, we'll be officially releasing detailed information on naming conventions used by the five races. To tide you over until then, however, I can give you a quick rundown of the current rules Lalafells (Plainsfolk/Dunesfolk) adhere to. (Remember, there are always exceptions to the rules!)
Plainsfolk Male
Phoneme pattern is AB - CB
The A and C phonemes do not have to rhyme.
- Zorido Manarido
Fun Fact: Plainsfolk males will usually always use their full names, rarely ever breaking them down into first or last only.
Plainsfolk Female
Phoneme pattern is ABB - AB.
- Mimomo Mimo
Dunesfolk Male
Phoneme pattern is AAB - CCB
The A and C phonemes are 1 syllable, the B phoneme 2.
The A and C phonemes may rhyme, but do not have to.
- Jajariku Nanariku (rhyming)
- Nunulupa Tatalupa (non-rhyming)
Fun Fact: Unlike their Plainsfolk cousins, the Dunesfolk males often only use their first names.
Dunesfolk Female
Phoneme pattern is AAB - AB.
The A and B phonemes are 1 syllable.
- Jajano Jano
Fun Fact: While both Plainsfolk and Dunesfolk females will usually only go by their first names, when in the service of a Grand Company, they will often use their full names (for example: Flame Private Nonoku Noku).
Royalty
Members of the Ul'dah and Sil'dih royal families also bear the names of their respective sultanates.
- Nanamo Ul Namo
- Lalawefu Sil Tatawefu
I hope that helps!![]()
