Why does SE want to force us to downgrade our gear?

Many of us are having to find way to upgrade our iLevel first to 575 then to 585 and who knows what's next, just to experience the new 6.2 content. My 90 RDM which has the highest iLevel of all my 90's is currently at 582 and people are telling me to craft the iLevel 610 gear.
Well, I started taking a look at craftable 610 gear for my rdm and every piece has anywhere from some to all stats LOWER than what my current 570-595 gear has. In some cases the stats are much lower and the few stats which are higher are barely higher.
Just because SE decided to label the gear with an iLevel score of 610 does not make it better gear! Why on earth would I want to put worse gear on just for a higher meaningless iLevel score? At this point I am not continuing with the post EW MSQ until SE wakes up and figures this out.

For crafted gear, always use High Quality gear, NEVER use Normal Quality. HQ gear will have the stats you expect for an ilevel 610 item.

It is also just flat out wrong. What a gathering retainer can bring back depends on the gathering stat that it has and how much it brings back depends on how much perception it has, so gear stats absolutely matter for retainers.

For DoH, yes, which is why my L90 DoH retainers are all in HQ Pactmakers gear with additional Gathering Materia melded in. For DoW/DoH, not at all.

The Garland Tools Database at https://www.garlandtools.org/ will tell you how many of each item a venture will give you according to iLevel or Gathering stat. For example:

• search for "Dynamis Crystal," open it, go to "Sources and Uses", click "Venture," you'll see a DoW/DoM retainer needs iLevel 573 on to get the max (15) from one venture, or
• search for Sideritis Leaves, and do the same, you'll see a DoL retainer needs Gathering 3936 to get the max (50) from one venture.

buy it for the cheaper glamour option, though. some of that gear is nice.

It's the hamster wheel. For some reason people like it. You're incredible gear must become useless (even with the same stats lol) so they can force the next ilvl on you.

For some reason, people are okay with it. I'm okay with ilvl increasing, but as you said, lower stats with a higher ilvl is head scratching. I keep having to remember not to update my saved set because it wants to put the lower ilvl gear in the slot if i use recommended.
