Yeah, you're right, bad people is not exclusive nor new to ffxiv. But I still feel people are taking the game too seriously, and overprepare even for the most casual content. A lot of people demanding others to watch guides for content, like even Labyrinth of the Ancients, no joke. That's not something I used to see prior the new influx of players.
Change can be a difficult thing to deal with. That's what seems to fuel much of the anger here in the forums. Taking a break from both the game and the forums sounds like the way to go.
My experience with SMN was just the opposite. I started in ShB and it seemed alright at first, but at cap, it was an awful mess. There were so many glaring issues, especially where pets were concerned. I'd been through this shit with other games. I got into other jobs. If it weren't for that option, I'd probably be long gone by now. The rework may have made things simpler, but it's not such a drag like it was before and it feels more like the summoner I played in other FFs.
MMOs are a constant work in progress. Learning to accept that helps with adjusting to whatever happens next. People like to complain about CBU3 and how it's handling things. Frankly, I've seen so much worse from companies like EA and NCSoft. It's funny how people think I'm some kind of shill or something. The truth is I'm as jaded as they come. I don't think they're perfect, but they're definitely doing far more for this game than others have. The communication and consistent delivery of updates is better than anything I've seen. I didn't even want to play another MMO because I was so burnt out on actual shitty developments and seeing games sunset. Someone just as jaded and picky as me was having fun here, so I tried it out. I was pleasantly surprised. The only stress I ever really have here is dealing with other players, so I make sure to take my breaks from them.![]()

The good news is, there are other games to play. One of the best things to me of having FFXIV as my standard main game is that when I feel burnout, it’s usually after a few months…where I find a ton of new games have released. Worst case you can always go back and goof off with an older game..or try something different. Not sure what systems or tastes you have, but over the years I’ve played a few titles and happily recommend as a top 10 in the past few years:
Nier Automata, Horizon Zero Dawn, Conan Exiles, Guildwars 2, Zelda BotW, Subnautica (either/both games), Animal Crossing, No Man’s Sky, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Stardew Valley.
And of course there are tons of things to watch and enjoy online. Even YouTube has a lot of free content you can enjoy. Recommend TedEd riddles, for example,

I think this is a big issue across a lot of what FFXIV offers.
New ideas and twists are good…but sometimes they try to force the game engine to do something it isn’t meant to do.
Like, I’ll happily chug away in a survival game like Conan, Ark or Subnautica gathering wood or iron for an hour or so… but doing essentially the same thing in Island Sanctuary was absolutely awful. There is just something satisfying about wacking things nearby and getting loot, rather than [running past 6 palm trees because “those aren’t the ones you can harvest”, clicking to target and clicking again because you are sure this is the tree you wanna harvest…load animation annnnnd 1 log get!]

I tried to keep it brief, but it ended up extending a bit:
Any form of entertainment that you engage in will become tedious sooner or later. You can never be new in XIV again. You can never be in your first dungeon, your first raid, or get your first Savage clear again. This doesn't just apply to XIV. You can't ever get your first car again, buy/build your first PC again, have your first kiss again or whatever, I think you get the point. George Lucas made mention of these cycles in a little video I'll try to dig up for you, but the bottom line is that expectations have to change when you've spent so much time with something, even if you love said thing. If your expectation is to be "wow'd" every new expansion like it's your first time going into Heavensward after you finished ARR, then chances are you're gonna be disappointed.
If I tell you to take a break, I don't want you to take it as a negative thing, but it's honestly the best advice I can give you, and I've been subbed since 2013. I've spent some time last year with Elden Ring, Breath of the Wild (again), Destiny 2 and other games that I visit from time to time, and then when I get that XIV itch I just log back in.
As to what is "worth" in the game, my honest thought here is that you may not be approaching it the wrong way. I grow Thavnarian Onions. Why? They give good money, but mostly because I enjoy gardening. I just do it because it's fun to me. I collect glam because I like to dress up. Island Sanctuary is great to distract my mind from IRL worries, Zadnor helps me turn off my brain and prevent anxiety. I love the story and characters, and most of all, spending time with my family and friends in the game is just fun to me. I'm not thinking about rewards, rather just what I enjoy doing in the game.
The one issue I had with your post, is that I don't quite understand why you say the devs are "As terrible as Bungie" and I say this as someone who also really enjoys Destiny 2. No game is perfect, and we're lucky that XIV (or D2) aren't Anthem or Fallout 76. The devs care about their game and their community, and we can antagonize them all we want because "X Job doesn't play like this or that", but taking them for granted just rubs me the wrong way (which I feel happens often in the forums), and I didn't like that part of your post.
In any case, and I have no idea if my post may help but I hope you can find what you're looking for in the future of the game.
Have a nice day.

Many have already suggested something to this effect, but go ahead and take a break if you feel you need it OP. No shame in that, and frankly SE and FFXIV is showing signs of going the way of Blizzard anyway, at least in the realm of story/expansion quality and dev feedback integrity. Other than the sexual harrassment shite, of course. They may not be as bad as Blizzard or Bungie, but don't let those already coming out of the woodwork telling you how that part of your post was wrong or inaccurate fool you... They're getting there, slowly but surely. The signs are there.
Damn, Tigole is not a name I thought I'd ever hear again. My regret is already manifesting.
Funny you mention NCSOFT, I've been playing Guild Wars 2 a fair bit in recent days to take the edge off of my FFXIV depression, haha. It's far more colorful and welcoming to explore, anyway. Also, why do I get the feeling this is about the Jessica Price debacle?....

Ouch. Thats a lot. What i will say is that maybe you do need to take a break. Ive repeated several times what Yoshi has said, go play other games and then come back when ready. We are in a small lull before 6.25 then 6.3 after that, it wont do you any harm to goof off elsewhere..FOMO isnt a thing with FF 14 so going off for a while wont be a major hassle.Pre EW I was playing this game so much that I logged about 1k hours in, which is a lot of hours for me
im playing Seven Days to die and a few others in my downtime, we all need to learn to walk away now and then, the game will still be here when you are ready.
Its your call, but iMO, taking a break from 14 might be a good idea.
@Kaynide I HAVE GW2, but as an oceanic player I have had major headaches finding people online in my timezone. Any suggestions?
Lastly, ignore this lot. These forums are negative as hell, I seriously believe they would sit and look at the most glorious sunset, then spend an hour dissecting the colour palette. I am of the belief that many of these people NEVER will be satisfied, whatever the devs do it is never enough to suit them.
Take these forums with a grain of salt the size of the Titanic.

I know nothing about that. I was just disappointed by their offerings and how games like Auto Assault never really stood a chance. Publishers barely gave devs much time back then to really put out a working product and many suffered for it. That's the other thing that got me curious about XIV because they actually stopped what they were doing to try again and it's held on for 10 years. I've never seen anyone like Yoshi hang around in a high position like that for too many years.
If you're feeling burnt out you should definitely take a break. Also, I bet if you stayed off social media for a while, including this forum, you would see your mood lift significantly. Being exposed to constant negativity can really wear on you mentally after a while and it can creep in very slowly and subconsciously without you realizing it.
