I don't even join a new dungeon without watching all the available guide videos repeeatedly until I fully understand all the mechanics. However, doing this has scared me away from attempting savage content. (Don't know what extreme is.)

Extreme is a step below savage as far as difficulty. From here on, fights are a properly coordinated dance to learn. The only scary part (IMO) is wondering how poorly the other seven people are going to do.
Dont fear high end content, a lot of people make a way bigger deal then necessary with them and make a song and dance when groups dont clear them as if they are easy.
Just set aside an hour or two to give some high end content, starting with Extreme, runs a go.
The first set are the ARR Ex Trials against the primals. Of these, the hardest are Ramuh and King Moggle Mog - mostly due to the step up and there being so much going on. The others really arent too bad.
My advice would to be to put a group together in your FC, or make your own PF group where you can set your own terms; like newbie run/practice or for fun which should turn away most impatient types.
WHM / BLM / SMN / NIN/ DNC / Omnicrafter and Gatherer
Extreme are essentially the harder difficulty of the trials. Mechanics change, the bosses often do things differently, and some mechanics are removed entirely. For EW, I'd suggest doing the 1st Extreme if you want to get into one. There isn't much to the fight, as it's more of a dance of mechanics to avoid. You get that down, and congratulations, you've basically taken your first step into the harder content.
Savage is basically just a step higher than that. As long as you learn "the dance", the fights aren't too difficult. There will be a few mechanics you need help with, but that goes for everybody. Personally I have difficulty with some of the mechanics from P6S, but there's always somebody calling out mechanics to help people on where to go, if you're in a static (premade group for the tier).
