And if you're spending a full minute looking around trying to see the tells for a mechanic that is a long time off then it becomes a question of how much stuff don't you see.?

The only real time I tend to use guides is if something doesn't make sense to me.. typically this is usually some form of cor mechanic where I can't see... like recently p5 i think it is apparently has green and yellow puddles on the floor. I can't see the difference I just see lots of puddles all the same colour.

Or the last boss of alzaddals legacy with the curtains..

So I'll watch a video pause it and usually spot alternative ways to identify. Such as shapes. Makes more sense.

As for duty finder the problem. Is less about guides and more about the disparity between normal and extreme.. the normal modes really should teach you the basics of the extreme bit often they don't they're just roflstomps
Thank you for your explanation, I can see your point of view, at the beginning I had a similar problem, Id watch a guide and wind up even more confused than before.

There are many youtube guides I couldnt understand because they are often filled with unnecessary jokes and dragged for way too long so I tend to stir clear of those content creators, thankfully there are a few smaller creators on youtube that can explain the fights in less than five minutes so that you can get a basic knowledge of how it will play out, not necessarily how long the mechanic will last but at least know that it exists and then I can practice it in the duty itself.

In df I often encountered healers that stack both of their stack markers together, or tanks not running away with their proximity markers which are common mechanics in normal modes as well.

Most people have a basic understanding of that but there are many who don’t and I think people should at least look up regular mechanics before joining an extreme fight if they didn’t catch on to them from regular duties.

You explained that better than I could!
Yes its exactly what I am talking about, I have no problem explaining but Ill never be able to explain as in depth as an actual guide and I am on playstation without a keyboard so me writing takes as long as them googling the guide online.
The best I can do is put up markers and tell people where to stand based on their roles, but I cannot provide them with links or images.

You didn’t read my entire post if you think this has to do with me not wanting to mentor people but thanks for your insight.

Many players just want their mentor mount and are fishing for guildhests. It's also quicker to take the penalty for abandoning the run than staying, in general.

It doesn't matter if it's DF or PF, the mentality of wanting to be carried through this content persists.

Most people learn by doing. Guides are useless for me if I've never been in a fight. They are braindumps of info that I don't retain. Videos make much more sense after I've actually experienced a fight. I prefer text guides. No ads, no one begging for subscribers etc.

Tell me, if I watch a video and don't retain anything how is that any different than not watching a video at all? I hate that people think someone should go watch a video and they should be perfect at the fight.

Because there's a subset of players who dont learn by watching but by doing.

I didn’t say you should be perfect at the fight and completely learn it from the video, thats your assumption, it wasn’t a personal attack at all towards you or anyone that has difficulties clearing a duty as I clearly mentioned multiple times in my original post.

Hell I didn’t even say you should be good or even average at the fight. That wasn’t the point in the slightest.

What I meant is that many people join extreme fights without any clue of basic mechanics and watching a guide beforehand to at least know you should run away from the party when you have a tiny bubble above your head, helps everyone in the end.

To me it seems you’re probably watching Mizzteq or similar and I can’t understand her either, there are shorter and easier videos out there that won’t help you retain everything (and you’re not expected to) but it will help you have a basic understanding of the fight.

I specifically meant Duty Finder as well, if it wasn't clear enough.

All of the old FF series did not have "guides" on YouTube. We played the game and figured it out. Sometimes a month or two later some company would write a "guide" for the game and you could pick it up at your gaming store. Most people prefer to learn and play games before reading a "guide" not to mention spoilers. Carry on.
