Why is it so common to join extremes without watching a guide first?

Since nobody is reading the original post, probably too long, let me ask you in a shorter and different way:

Why dont you read or watch the strat online if you dont want to do a blind run and instead you ask people to write down the entire strat for you in party finder as soon as you join the party either way, when you could have googled five minutes prior?

Excuses from people saying that they like to do blind runs go straight out of the window when the first thing they do as they join the party is ask for the strat.

That’s not blind. Thats reading the strat in that chat box vs a google page.
If you want blind then join and say you want a blind run. Dont join and ask people to write you the strat.

Edit again: I do stay and help people until the end as a mentor, Ill even requeue with them if they couldn’t complete, and I will guide as much as possible whenever there are mistakes, that wasn’t even the question or implication here, but yes, mentor bad.

Yes this is in duty finder but if you want to talk about pf too thats fine with me.

Some people prefer to learn the fight first hand.

Now did that person join a party that specified "watch a guide first" or "know mechanics"?

Or did you join a blind prog party?

Unless you're on a JP server, what are you doing queuing for an Extreme via duty finder?

Some people like to learn (or learn better) from personal experience than watching a guide.

You've explained it right there. You're mostly running into new players who aren't familiar with how the community has chosen to use PF versus DF for when it comes to Extremes. Many probably aren't even aware of the difficulty difference between the normal trial and the EX.

I mean, no? I actually enjoy when I get an Extreme in mentor roulette because I like running teaching parties. And the reason I like doing teaching runs of stuff is not because of masochism, it's because the sheer glee when a group gets a victory and feels like they earned it is pure joy to see (and to have helped them obtain).

Sometimes it's frustrating getting them to the finish line, sure, but the victory is all the sweeter.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

Not everyone learns the same way. Players who learn from watching videos are quite common. There are other players who cannot get anything from watching videos.

A number of players choose to go into each encounter unspoiled, as if it were the first day of the patch where that encounter was introduced when there were exactly zero video guides.

You may be asking such player to forgo the experience in order to make your roulettes easier.

I assume you are talking about roulettes, as party finder provides ample opportunity to both screen players and reasonably kick them (if it is not advertised as a 'learning' PF)

I agree that there might be a small minority of people who are looking for a carried clear but be very absolutely sure that the player in question is just not getting it or expecting a carry. Other reasons for miscommunication include second languages, PlayStation without a keyboard, and the player is simply not equipped or experienced enough for the encounter. Encourage those players to join a learning PF and then either vote to kick or abandon.
