I personally find it weird to thank a company or a group of workers for a paid product made for the masses. They may deserve thanks when they cater to what the community is requesting them to do, and even then, not always.

It's very different from thanking a worker that is interacting directly with you and providing a service tailored for you/your needs (like waiters, doctors, cashiers, etc)

There is nothing wrong with being appreciative of the work the developers put towards this game. Ignore people that try to silence you. Scream your thoughts from the top of your lungs. It is about time we turn this forum around and take it back from all of the negative people.

Companies are faceless so it's easier to praise them, doubly so when said company is virtue signaling. A single person rarely is able to change the direction a company is going unless they have a lot of pull in the company (and those types rare put empathy over profit) so it's easier to pat a nameless company on the back similar to how sports fans pat a team on the back but as soon as a person leaves "our" team for "their" team then they are no longer worthy of empathy. Sorry Sportsguy™, you only permanently destroyed your knees for millions of dollars. :/

In this thread, we get to meet some of the people who have caused the service industries to be in dire need of employees the last couple of years. They demand perfection while not showing appreciation for another's effort.

Saying "thank you" isn't praise. It is appreciation for someone else's effort to provide something the recipient cannot or will not do for themselves at that time, regardless of any imperfections in the product or service provided. Just because it's someone's job doesn't mean they don't deserve thanks. Where would you be if they weren't doing that job, nor was anyone else?

It doesn't negate the need for constructive feedback on where the product/service needs more work or repair, and where the product/service meets or exceeds expectations.

Stop and think about all the things you have in your life where you never thanked all those responsible for making them possible.

Now remove all those things. What do you have left? Probably very little.

To be fair, the same applies to you and your efforts. If you're never thanked at your job despite performing it to reasonable standards, there's a problem. Not trying to say that the air should be filled with "thank you" to the point they seem insincere but it should be getting said at least occasionally. Expressed appreciation boosts job performance and can help cut down on employee turnover.

And yet some of those workers in the customer-facing positions would not be able to do their work without those behind the scenes doing their own jobs.

The waiter frequently goes unappreciated when the chefs and dishwashers aren't doing their jobs.

Doctors go unappreciated if their nurses and administrative staff aren't keeping things organized and making certain test results are coming back.

Cashiers are unappreciated if the stockers aren't getting prices labeled correctly or the equipment malfunctions.

MMORPGs are never the effort of a single customer facing person. They are the result of a team effort and the entire team desires the thanks. Money isn't a thank you, unless you're leaving it as a tip above and beyond the product/service cost. Money is the middleman that allows your services/products that others want to be translated into a way you can get services/products you want from a third party.

    ******

Thank you to the FFXIV development team, Community teams and everyone else whose effort go into making this game.

The game may have some problems (what game doesn't?) but overall it's been a very enjoyable journey and I've been glad to have been playing for 7 years, with the game being my primary game home for the last 5.

Talks like we didn't paid anything or get the game for free.
SE must be a charity saint.

And no they just don't want to lose their customers. White knighting the devs is as toxic as all those positive toxicity.

Funny how a lot of those issues tend to be caused by bad management or those above the immediate management saddles those below them with unrealistic goals that end up eroding the customer's experience because keeping a job is more important than the customer's satisfaction, lol.

Didn't realize just saying a simple thank you is considered toxic positivity now

Let's not be naive about this.

It's because these types of big public 'thankyous' always appear when there's controversy in the community, and are more intended to serve as opposition to the people that are unhappy rather than legitimately offer thanks to anyone. It's just empty posturing in an attempt to signal moral superiority.

I mean, just look at hilarious statements like this:

Like yeah, I think it's silly to make a big public show of thanking the devs after one of the most disasterous raid tier launches since Heavensward, therefore I must yell at 16 year old kids working at mcdonalds.
