I'll be honest - I've always found elements of this fandom to be creepily cult-like at times and I'm not going to pretend as if even reasonable feedback written in a polite and constructive manner isn't shot down by some of the same posters who are now getting angry within this very thread because there's a growing outcry of acknowledgement that maybe, just maybe, some elements of the game could stand to improve.

Seems a tale of 2 sides tbh. Because yes there will always be people who do this. But thats on both sides of a coin. I also feel with how quick people are to jumping on folks they misunderstand what folks are actually saying.
Like when ire was REALLY hot here and folks like myself told others to leave polite and constructive criticism and leave the game til they saw the changes they wanted to send a message. Many of us were called white knights n criticism police when we were in fact just trying to help.

I think the mistake most of us made is thinking that FFXIV's community was actually good. It's just as bad as any other group once you start to dive through it's cracks.

At least it's less so in-game, that's probably the only good thing going for it and even then you can still run some problems.

It’s fucking annoying. I feel like they will literally take anything the devs give them. It could be a pile of shit and gcbtw will be like “Well at least they care about their players unlike other games! They’re trying their best.” Yeah ok.

I never buy to that sentiment, and I'm glad that's what I did.

There's no way an MMO community can be THAT good. I mean regulated? Yeah, for sure. Without flaw & can of worms in its cranny and nooks? Just... impossible.

I'm not sure that this or any other online forum (e.g., reddit) fairly represents the "FFXIV community."
Especially when you consider the non-EN portion of that community.
The JP forums, for example, have a completely different vibe than the EN forums do.

If you pay attention to the live letters, they are working on updating the game graphically. Things like this are not done over night and take time, specially a game as large as this. Grant it there are UI improvements that need to be made, that some QoL mods do better, but as shitty as it seems, they have to follow their ToS. If they let those UI mods go, it seems that ToS is more of a guideline than a set of rules established to play the licensed game. I'm sure they would rather not ban the people that had the QoL UI mods, but they have to do it. Character customization is fine, its nothing compared to AoC or BDO character creation, but those games emphasize more so on that. I spend this game 90% of the time of my character facing forward rather than looking at me, so character creation is definitely on the bottom of the list for me. Housing < its definitely gotten better, it used to be way worse, and as you can see housing slots are open on every server. The way that it is designed will be based on server capacity. I like the concept they went for in establishing that you have neighbors, etc rather than having a instance where you are all alone, definitely if a RP community was to come together for a section of housing that part of the game can sky rocket. Job Balancing will always be broken < its what makes the game, complaining about it rather than providing insight does nothing to the solution, people forget that back in SB classes went as far as 8% apart in DPS, and I'm sure with 6.25 and 6.3 you will see classes get reworked or buffed. The issue is not the balance, its the way boss hitboxes are designed making Ranged a lot less useful over melee. It will be interesting to see what they do going forward.

While I agree with almost all you said, housing slots are not open on every server. Balmung is full, and without demo timer, there are no new houses each lottery. (Not that this has changed since the lottery implementation.)
