I think the mistake most of us made is thinking that FFXIV's community was actually good. It's just as bad as any other group once you start to dive through it's cracks.

At least it's less so in-game, that's probably the only good thing going for it and even then you can still run some problems.

I never buy to that sentiment, and I'm glad that's what I did.

There's no way an MMO community can be THAT good. I mean regulated? Yeah, for sure. Without flaw & can of worms in its cranny and nooks? Just... impossible.

You and I have wrote our piece(s). We don't necessarily need to change each other's mind. But we can change other's."

I'm not sure that this or any other online forum (e.g., reddit) fairly represents the "FFXIV community."
Especially when you consider the non-EN portion of that community.
The JP forums, for example, have a completely different vibe than the EN forums do.

No, the FFXIV community is good. Being in game is a pleasant experience for the most part. Is it perfect? No, but then nothing is. But for the most part players are still having a good time despite the problems.

It's the forum communities, that the vast majority of players do not take part in, that have problems. Doesn't matter if it's the official forums, the subreddit or any of the other places that a small segment of the community congregates to discuss the game.

People like to talk about what is outside of their expected experience. Being happy is expected and taken for granted so it's rarely mentioned. Being unhappy is not expected and so ends up a subject of discussion, usually to vent.

And so you end up with mostly negative echo chambers. People gather together to vent, then get angry when others insert their positive opinions. Or vice versa - someone tries to start a positive discussion and those upset join it to point out they're unhappy.

People can have a hard time disagreeing in constructive fashion.

Sometimes you've got to dive into the deep end. Your feelings are your feelings, regardless of those that disagree.

If their best rebuttal is "you're a white knight", why worry about what they think?
