I really don't understand this angle about Vrtra "whining" about his sister. She disappeared thousands of years ago, in the meantime he led his own nation (and did pretty good at it, compared to the rest of the world).

He tried to rescue her, but quickly abandoned because he decided to make his people come first.

And now he has an opportunity to try to save her, i don't see how he is whining ?
Even in the void i don't remember him getting annoying with his mentions of his sister.
He simply ask details to the voidsent he saw.

Nidhogg was way more "whiny" about his sister (with good reason i conceid).
Vrtra have a complete personality and goals that doesn't around his sister, it is simply his present goal and reason to accompany us.

It basically boils down to certain people thinking for some reason that men should never show "weak" emotions like caring about others or being sensitive in any way or, god forbid, even crying. Vrtra absolutely does have every right to be worried about her and desperate to find her given the circumstances.

Well it would help if he had more than 2 personality traits: leader and worried. The little brother angle that's being pushed with him has also been overdone and overused in this game with Alphinaud. I don't play video games to hear men gush about how sad and worried they are, that isn't something that I look for in the male heroes that I'm drawn to. Do they make sacrifices? Do they provide enough entertainment to justify their presence on-screen, like Heavensward Estinien did? If so, excellent. If not, as the current men in the cast are, I leave for better games while just logging in here to turn in leves.

Seriously. I never got why people liked watching trash TV...but now I get it. Watching the constant bickering between these regulars and their interpersonal and ideological conflicts is some of the cheapest entertainment I can get on a slow day.

As Aerith is my favourite FF character of all time though, I feel I should say that female characters can still be strong even if they are ‘cute flowers in a dress’. Aerith may not be on the front lines hitting perverts over the head with a chair 24/7 (Although when she is, she is amazing doing it) but she is a really well written, charming character. In the Remake especially, I feel they gave her a lot more agency on top of that (Its also nice how her and Tifa actually bond, rather then get reduced to jealous rivals).

Well put and I completely agree.

Women and men shouldn't be confined to a "default" state where if you're anything other than the caricature of a traditional gender role it's some sort of statement or a transgression, it's just being a well-rounded human being and behaving in a way that comes naturally to each individual, whether that fits within traditional gender roles or not.

I don't think that Y'shtola with the combination of her lackluster appearence and personality gives her the same sort of pass that someone like Yotsuyu or Bayonetta gets when it comes to how they treat men.

HW Estinien...you mean the same guy who at EVERY chance expressed his "Dragon bad dragon bad dragon bad...ice witch...dragon bad"?

Don't get me wrong I like him in HW but he was doing the very thing you shame the current cast for apparently doing now...

Also the little brother angle is FAR different here. With V it's a case of "you've been looking after us this whole time. Now it's time we do the same for you". Very different dynamic than Alphi and Estiniens brotherly bond.

tbh after reading the other posts from op in the thread, i realized my earlier folly and that there is 0 interest in actual critical engagement of a narrative.

my solution is to download big booba [redacted] enhancements, change the language to one you dont know and you'll find so many characters you adore.

Agreed 100% on this. I'm my own person. I don't need a man to tell me how to act, look and speak.

It's like a lot of people say Zero has just been introduced and they're slowly working on fleshing her out. I'd rather them do that then just throw it all in my face at once.
