I think it's a victimless crime in that case. We're talking about characters in the story, not how men and women should behave and exist in the real world. While I disagree on almost all of his views on the subject and find him unnecessarily close-minded, shouldn't he be allowed to have a preference to a particular archetype? People who better like conservative depictions of male and female characters aren't a threat to progressiveness in my opinion.
