I don't think this game tests reflexes at all [unless it's that fight at the end of Endwalker of course ]. It's almost entirely rote memorisation of mechanics. The true test of job mastery comes from the naughty funny colours website, aside from that it doesn't really matter as long as you clear

Mechanics in Savage still hit hard enough to pose a serious threat if not coordinated with the healers beforehand or if selfmit/ shield isn't on point. I've never saw anyone just eating the stack willy-nilly on balls on e6s, it was always "Are we playing uptime balls?" because there was an aoe right afterwards and unless you were near BiS, you absolutely needed mit to even survive the hit.
It took away some options for coordinated settings. In uncoordinated settings, people usually still just died if they just ate it so no real difference.

Eating several stacks and getting away with it while only punishing the healer is something that's true for casual content and I don't always agree with it there but I wish they would've left Savage alone and left the playerbase some freedom to come up with creative strats that reward coordination instead of enforcing the single solution to a mechanic they want players to use.
I share the exact same sentiment.

You know why I didn't completely hate E6S? Because as a tank you had so many opportunities to maximize your uptime in exchange for taking some extra damage, which also meant your had to properly plan your mitigation to compensate for it. It allowed for a creative use of your toolkit to deal with mechanics in ways that were maybe not intended but resulted in squeezing more dps out of your job and not put too much extra burden on the healer if executed correctly. Now everything just gives you a damage down and makes it completely impossible to get creative, you do the mechanic EXACTLY like SE wants you to or you get punished.

And since you can't use creative uptime strats anymore SE has compensated for it by just making hitboxes gigantic, it's almost a never ending cycle of bad design decisions followed by even worse design decisions that further reduce any kind of player skill expression.

One-shots create a false illusion of difficulty, but in reality in most content you just throw infinite rezzes at it and keep scraping bodies off the floor until you win. Some mechanics are even designed to bait you into getting killed until you figure out the trick so it felt hard. But you still usually muddle through first try. The problem with this design is once everyone knows the trick, the fights become a snoozefest and the healers are put to sleep.

I'd like to see more mechanics that just deal a ton of damage and test the healers rather than either being 0 damage or swift-raise and go on your way. I don't see it as "healer punishment", I see it as a chance to actually play my role and be rewarded if I excel at it. I'm also in the minority that doesn't mind vuln at all too. I can still keep that player alive right up until they do get one-shot and I like that it allows for some risk-reward uptime strats instead of following the same formula. If vuln is supposed to be a healer punishment, damage down is an everyone punishment because one players dps is a part of the group dps.
Yep, this is why Barbs EX is such a good fight. My favorite by far, it's always clear who messes up and how to circumvent it. A proper hard mode fight.

I liked Reginae and similar duties that allowed 2-3 screwups before you got screwed.

Since people are asking I will make a clarification. Note this is just one of many examples.

I was doing P7N last night and I have to say this is my least favorite of the new tier because many of the mechanics are difficult to read and failing them results in death. I think I died five times last night, one time when I died I have no idea what killed me, but it lead to one of many "chain death" occurrences. I was hardly the only one having trouble because several people had multiple deaths in that fight. I'm a SCH main and while no one has hit me with "Healers Adjust!" it definitely makes my job more difficult when I'm having to stop DPS and refreshing shields to have rez people, especially when it forces me to hard cast rez because the RDM isn't helping out. (That's for another topic tho.) It's incredibly aggravating to have to deal with this and it makes the game not fun. This is the only one in the Abyssos tier I have trouble with because it's nothing but knockoffs and disappearing platforms which is the kind of BS I expect to see in Savage where one fuck up generally renders the entire fight a failure.

When I play rdm I get yelled at for rezzing.

I just let the healer do it unless:

Healers mana bar is emptier than my gas tank
    Healer(s) is/are dead
    Healer asks me

Um...It's a fight. People dodge and attack at the very least in a fight. So no...I disagree.

What? That's literally one of the main reasons prog groups bring RDM with them lol.

With Raise, it's ideal to let the healers handle individual deaths. When RDM and SMN should jump in is when there are 3 or more deaths, or when deaths are happening back to back to help for when healer Swiftcast is down. Casting for 8 seconds isn't even possible during many mechanics of a given savage fight. It's tricky, though, cause these situations where caster Raise holds value are pretty rare and have to occur during instance where multiple people can die but also not wipe the raid.
