well, you didn't lie. this was a whack idea.
No thank you
Part BLM, part WHM, all benchwarmer if the JOATs get their way.
Res dps are punished in high content because good players do not die; they do the mechanics correctly. When no one dies, the res utility spells are not used. Are you happy with 10% permanent damage down?
In all non-high end content, DPS does not mean the difference between success and failure. Non-high end content does not have an enrage timer.
Do you think DNC is bad design too?
Great counter proposals. Let's think of other ideas.Ideally RDM would only be 2% at most behind BLM and melee. That's more than enough tax.
But I can see the idea behind the suggestion. Let's say it was a temporary damage down that resulted in about a 3% dps loss over a raid fight. That would mean RDM is pretty much the same just with more damage and only receives the current utility tax IF they use their utility multiple times. So RDM would actually be in a much better spot than it is now. Everyone up in arms and calling it a terrible idea isn't really thinking it through.
I still say no because it's a compromise and accepting the flawed idea of dps tax in a game entirely focused around dps, instead of a fix.
DPS shouldn't have res in the first place. If they do keep them, might as well give it to BRD and DNC too.
in ARR and HW, drg used to have a similar deal. Blood for blood used to give a dps boost but, you took more damage while the buff was up. It require some tuning am sure but maybe could work for RDM? but, being a caster, that has no shield like SMN for example. We can be squishy at times =(
The original proposal punishes the caster for doing what is, outside of high-end content, a good deed. It's irrelevant that the punishment doesn't actually matter in that context. All those players who don't care about job balance are just going to go, "Debuffs bad, don't push button."
Maybe just buff both BLM and RDM (And Smn), I do think BLM should do the most? (in general phys ranged aswell?) Raising is very valuable and expecting there not to be a significant difference between BLM and other casters makes no sense, No one would pick a BLM if it was a tiny bit in front of the other two casters, BLM is always going to be giving up raise potential
Really the gap between BLM and samurai shouldn't be so much this should give room to make SMN/RDM more viable by also buffing their output and buffing ranged.
People complain about jobs becoming similar with each expansion, but having the options and different reasons why you want to pick a caster is way more interesting then any reason why you'd pick a melee dps over a other, the thing is Red mage can perform well the fight was overtuned, Do I want RDM to perform well? Yes Do I think we need to make it so that every job plays pratically the same and does the same damage? no, BLM has it's advantages and rdm does.
It's clear why the fight damage in p8s was brought down, while yes job balance for machinist, reaper and even red mage should be looked at, at the same time we should be wanting more utility we should be wanting more options on what a job brings, instead of every DPS just either bringing Damage buffs or raw damage, we should be wanting actual meaningful differences in jobs, I'm not saying RDM or SMN should be this low, but it's not a problem with blm doing a lot more damage, in general it's a problem with the idea of range tax, I mainly have a problem with this because I don't want Casters to become melee dps where their only actual good utility is "lol raid buff in your 120 window"
