Imagine running a game that updates like 3 times a year but charges people a flat rate to start playing it, and a monthly fee to keep playing it, and then instead of breaking up the 4 month content drought with events that give silly costumes, you triple-dip and sell those outfits/mounts/emotes to your players instead, or you partner with some stupid company like butterfinger or grubhub that runs out of promo codes after people bought some candy/service they never wanted. And then you take that money and you don't even put it back into the game; you use it to make a marvel game that fails, or you put it towards another ff game.

Well, ff16 ain't gonna fund itself. Chop chop!

I'm wasting less than my sister, that smokes, is into makeup, is into fashion, shoes, etc etc etc and always needs some new shit.

As a sidenote: I love how some people say "just tuck the viera ears in"
"just m ake the tail disappear so it doesnt horribly clip"
then either of those things happen and another portion goes: "omg this is so lazy and cheap why is that happening"

Having your fluffy tail/ears rolled into your pajama sounds super comfy to me

The gloves being messed up isn't okay tho

To be fair, I'm quite happy about that. I was sad that I would have had to buy the school uniform twice to get the variants. I wanted the skirt, but not the shirt with a bow, I wanted the tie. In the end, I just bought one of them.

I mean sure there is an issue with the cash shop (althought I don't mind but to each their own) but at least they didn't sell the fat cat attire twice juste to have different pants.

I hadn't considered comparing it against expansion prices.
Where I am, to buy Endwalker on Steam currently it's 29.99, this glam set alone is 15.00.

It would cost me more to buy this glam set for two characters (which I would have to do, because it's Single Character only) than it would to buy the most recent expansion.

Major updates come out maybe 3 times a year but there are several smaller content updates that add plenty of things to do. Omicron tribal quests and variant + criterion dungeons are being released pretty soon. There's nowhere near a "drought." You're being kind of dramatic.

It's unfortunate that many people never received their rewards for those promotions, but those type of items are usually put in the store at some point down the line. I had to wait for a long time before Yuna's outfit was finally added to the store. But hey, I was happy it was there, and I bought it.

Do you have any proof they don't put the money they make from the online store back into the game? Also, SE didn't even develop that Avengers game. They only published it. They left the Western games to Western companies.

Everyone knows XIV is the cash cow. they invest the absolute minimum (shout out to intern-san) and extract the maximum. If you dont agree with this cash shop stuff, vote with your wallet and dont buy anything off there. While whales will continue to urinate their money up the wall, at least you'll know you didnt contribute to the problem. There is absolutely 0 reason for the cash shop to exist when they charge a base fee and a sub cost. Maybe they could add these items into the game to be earned instead of brought to help with player retention and droughts but I guess mr shareholder wouldnt be too happy with that.

Since no one seems to understand econ101 otherwise with this game, I swear I need to just copy and paste this comment every time I see someone complain that ff14 is funding other projects:

FF14 funds other games as the sub money and sale of the game goes back to Square-Enix AS A WHOLE. In turn, every other project that makes sales that they push out also goes back into Square-Enix as a whole to fund other projects that the main JP branch is creating, such as Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy 7 Remake games, upkeeping and creating some minor content for FFXI etc. That money that the company makes also goes into paying their employees, buying/replacing hardware, keeping the lights on assuming it's not built into the rent payment, paying rent on however many floors they rent out in the office building they're in, buying/upgrading software, taxes, insurance, and more that I'm probably missing. Their net amount made then goes into a budget to dole out to each CBU + non-game dev expenses (so the rent, employee pay, etc) for a business quarter for four quarters, or sometimes maybe even the entire business year.

So really, it's disingenuous to whine that "FF14 is funding other games!!!!" when those "other games" are also funding FF14 in turn from their profits, that's how it works.

Since the Mogstation is connected to FF14 and FF14 only, the funds they generate from all the Fantasia junkies and people who instabuy glams or mounts or emotes or whatever goes back to the devs independent of the budget they're given by the company to add into and use for new DCs, new server blades, bolstering their budget for certain things in the game like better and more fluid animations, upgrading all of the upcoming content in 7.0 (and hopefully the engine 14 is running on because that really needs an upgrade) and whatever else they need it for that goes back only into FF14 and its upkeep and development. Promos generate profits on both sides - having FF14 branding on a Butterfinger means people get curious and try the free trial, 14 players buy Butterfingers for what they want that they get in game, win win on both sides from a business perspective.

For the record, Blizzard also runs a cash shop for WoW and their prices are higher than FF14, with added Faction Change for $30. Race Changes sit at $25, and most mounts sit at $25 - one is $15, and another is $30, and their mounts aren't designed for two or more people, just one.

And no, before anyone comes at me over this: I don't like that some things have hit the Mogstation like the spriggan mount or the Pagaga emote instead of a reward or available outside of the cash shop, at least one of their promos was super mishandled and I'm hoping they make that emote available in another way for people, and it's tiring to see people complain over things that, while true in part, are still completely incorrect as a whole with how 14 sale/sub/MS money is used.

Now picture being in a similar situation and you have to choose between buying something cool on the mogstation or eating.

I didn't buy anything unneccessary when I didn't have a job and was struggling to find one and was struggling in school and struggling to have any money for anything.
I wanted to, but I did not.

I have my job for a bit over 2 years now, I'm finally in a situation where i can spend money.
    So I will.

    Sometimes.

Edit: I could still afford things like games and some goodies here and there back then but I didn't get to have many things I wanted.
Now I can but still don't because I like just having extra money for any emergency.

I literally know how much it sucks to not have something you want sometimes, I was in that boat not too long ago. Me getting this job was the best thing that happened to me, even tho it happened for bad reasons.

Telling others that they shouldn't spend money on their hobby because it's all so "overpriced" just never was in my mind. I spend 1k on a commision that is absolutely beatiful once and I have 0 regrets about it. Even though others may say 1k for a picture is way too much and i Should have spend it smarter or whatever, I don't care.

Other hobbies are legit way more overpriced, even smoking and alcohol and partying alone are, so a company making money even tho "they have so much, are big company, ree" isn't the worst thing to me. It feels like people forget that companies aren't your friends and have to make money because making games costs a lot of money, too. They don't just keep it, they use it to make more games.
Is it a lot for a set? I'm not gonna say no.
Did I still gift it to a friend? Yes
Do i regret it? No, she looks adorable in the sets she made

    Doubledit:
I live in Bavaria and soon, Oktoberfest happens here again.
That's such a big moneysink because everything is overpriced as HELL.
Do I shame people that go there instead to other parks that are always there and cheaper? No (well Covid is a thing, so i dont vibe with that, but before all that), if they can, it's their right to do so.

My present financial situation is essentially that. I couldn't partake in the sale save one Fantasia because I simply couldn't afford what are luxury purchases beyond my sub itself. Which, to be fair, is higher since I have multiple retainers. Guess what I do? Don't buy things. It's that simple. Granted, I already have a lot of items on my main character but I've wanted the Megashiba for a while now. I just have more important things to spend money on. I could sit here and shake my fist at the nasty company... or just wait until my financial improves to where I can afford to splurge should I choose.
