I just wish the prices in USD were more comparable to the JPY, GBP, or EUR prices. At least with the current exchange rates, USD folks are paying about $5 more than other regions for this costume set.

How much you pay for anything is entirely up to you. I get tired of people blaming a store for simply offering. People would be complaining about anything regardless of prices being high or low or even if the shop didn't exist.I agree, I remember waiting to resub just to get those rewards, it felt like my time was worth. Nowadays I have no clue how they work.
You're right, good or bad are subjective in most cases, but that's not the point here: the point is that we're paying 22 dollars (or 17.50 euros) for an item that while you might like/dislike it, it's getting way too pricy for a p2p game...which also asks you to pay additional fees for retainers, has 2 races that are essentially limited , and also can't add simple things like instancing housing or a better dresser (adding more slots won't really make it better).
And if we want to get to the point of liking or dislike, let's take your example and assume they will sell an armor that's just like the Abyssos raid in the cash shop for "higher" than 22 bucks, but it looks cooler, better, and you can even change the color of the effects.
Yeah you can still get the abyssos gear for free...but the actual cooler and better abyssos gear is in the shop. And it kinda makes you wonder if you should or not for that price.
And before you say "they will never do that", well they already have special armors being sold in the cash shop (the heavensward ones), including their weapons. So it's not completely impossible for this to actually happen. Let's hope not, but I already jinxed it so whatever!
That's not the point of the comparison: the point is, and I quote myself
Aka, you need to find a balance or risk creating a problem... also you can die if you have no clothes when it's cold outside, because too little clothing can do that. But you can also get hurt by too much clothing.
Again, the comparison isn't the point, the meaning behind is.
Can you get any of those items - EXCEPT the ones from previous events - like sleipnir, the bike, this current outfit, the deride emote, and all of those fancy costumes from the mogshop ingame WITHOUT requiring to pay real money?
Sure most "things" are also gained through in game...but a good chunk of "most" things are also locked behind the shop with no way to obtain them otherwise.
Afterall if we could get them ingame through other means we wouldn't be here wasting time in this thread, now would we?
Honestly I'd like to one day see the ratio of in game items to store one to see how big the chunk of store items is

Everything needs to be free, because we are paying a subscription XDHow much you pay for anything is entirely up to you. I get tired of people blaming a store for simply offering. People would be complaining about anything regardless of prices being high or low or even if the shop didn't exist.

Holidays is getting close. It good idea from SE to pre plan those items. Like it or not, it's a company.
I'll just say this because this is going nowhere, the loot box comment probably wasn't fitting, and you're clearly the crowd meant for this type of deal, so all I say is this: if you're fine with it, then hope you'll also be fine with it when the price will become 25, 30, or even 50 dollars for an item that could be ingame. Because that's what you're gonna get one day, and that one item that you deeply wish to obtain might someday cost over a hundred dollars for all you know. Remember to practice what you preach when that day happens.
And in all honesty, I don't even hate the cash shop, the shop itself is relatively tame (for now) and I have nothing against it per se. The real issue is the playerbase, the ones with more than bigger wallets, because if they didn't purchase these new items en-masse, I can firmly believe the shop would yes be relevant, but not so extremely expensive to the point of being prohibitive.
I mean do I buy stuff in it? Sure, I bought a few things, mostly when on sale, but I don't think I've spent more than 200 euros in total when it comes to mog shop items, in the 8-9 years I've been playing (well less, considering the cash shop didn't exist at the start). And even then it was probably fantasias, which are pretty cheap.
And frankly, at this point, if they want to focus so much on the cash shop, please do and make it bigger. I want to see more stuff in it: more unique items, offer for private housing, extra services for banking, extra slots, and more. They should go all out at this point and see what sticks. Afterall, it's all an offer that you don't need to buy, right?
Do what you want and enjoy your shopping and game, I believe I've been clear enough.
This was my previous comment but I felt it was poorly fitting in this argument anyway so I removed it. Do what you will with it, I don't care anymore
So, theoretically speaking, you'd be also fine with other kinds of offerings such as...lootboxes?
Because that's what loot boxes are, you know? An offer for "stuff" that you can get where the payment is all up to you (you can pay for one roll, two rolls, even 10 rolls...which is usually the one incentivized the most).
Sure it's a "fake" promise, but it's where the payment is up to me, and the game is "only offering" me to do it. It's a pretty poor way but that's kinda what it is. And people are mad about it for good reasons.
Granted, I hope this never happens, because then I'd probably be mad too.

Just in case you possibly didnt notice, I was being sarcastic. XD
If I have the money to waste, and I want it enough, Ill buy it.
Otherwise I can ignore it
I wouldn't care if loot boxes were in the game as long as they don't take away the experience of the game. Mogstatio basically doesn't exist to me as I don't need anything from it and it's not marring my experience by any means. I love my glams created through in game means and am satisfied. People can be upset as is their right but you could easily just not spend the money or wait for a sale which will eventually come. So, theoretically speaking, you'd be also fine with other kinds of offerings such as...lootboxes?

Hard truth is mogstation isnt going nowhere and prices won't be dropping if folks are paying. So if you want that to change you need to reach your fellow players

Worry not, it'll get worse, and worse, and worse again. That's the life of a live service game, just like a wolf in sheep's clothing. I personally blame the zoomer paypigs, but every company that travels that path (meaning every fucking one of them) shares part of it. It's even more amusing when you remember Square Enix is full of incompetent people and all the money they get is thrown at some garbage project they just came up with, possibly (probably) causing a ridiculous loss of money.
