Online Store is Getting Worse!

Came to make a post about this myself today, almost surprised to see a thread already up. In general, I've nothing against the cash shop. I know it lets Yoshi have more control over other aspects and outright pays for parts of the game. I've also bought plenty of items from it myself, in pretty much every category. Now... that said...

The rising increase in costs solely because of non-genderlocked items is absolutely ridiculous. $18 for a glam is already a stupid cost, but now SE just has the absolute audacity to tell us "Hey, now you get some extra pants, so cough up the dough!" even though if the items were genderlocked still, they'd both exist regardless. They're not doing any extra work, yet they're taking on an extra charge for 0 reason. It's absolutely scummy as all heck and completely indefensible. Honestly the Fat Cat outfit went from an insta buy to something I'm not even thinking about. I haven't even bought the streetwear set yet which I'm considerably more interested in.

That's not even talking up the point that of all things that might be egregiously placed on the eshop instead of in-game methods, it's the emote category. So many absolutely basic emotes should be in-game rewards and just aren't, and this is the latest one. So even though I've been wanting this emote like the rest of the community from the minute we saw Pagaga, I won't be picking it up either. SE needs to cut this crap out and stick things back in the game where they belong.

That pagaga emote being in the mogstation annoys me more than the price of the hoodie yeah.

We know that the mogstation is overpriced and predatory in a game with a subscription. It's pretty much the norm at that point and it has been accepted, we just have to see how many players just say that it's fine in that very thread.

But the emote could have been a new mini update to reinject some players into the dead as f bozja content. Just add some new "pagacoins" vendor into bozja, and you can then farm those new freshly minted coins in any bozja related content. There, that forgotten content get some actions for a few days at least. It could help players get their relics or other bozja stuff as well.

They could even add it to both the mogstation and the game, if some players really prefer paying instead of actually playing to the game. You can either farm for it ingame or bypass the farm by paying. We already have the level boosters after all.

So yeah while the mogstation doesn't make the game effectively worse by existing, it sure prevents making it just a little better by holding hostage some stuff that could be used to resurrect some abandoned content.

Predatory implies take advantage of someone or heavily incentivizing they spend money. Regardless of your opinion towards the Mogstation, nothing on it provides any in-game advantage. You can literally ignore the entire store and lost out on nothing. Loot Boxes or games like Diablo are predatory due to locking aesthetics behind a RNG paywall or tying actual character progression to one. A predatory system would see that Pagaga emote people are wringing their hands over have a 5% drop rate from a crate you can purchase for $1 each. Don't believe me? Go look at actual F2P games like Black Desert or Blade & Soul. You'd spend significantly more on their aesthetics even after accounting for the subscription fee (they have one too) simply because their prices are higher, there's far less aesthetics in game to begin with or they're buried under layers of RNG.

With FFXIV, you pay one price and get exactly what you want.

Now I won't deny things are overpriced. They are. Which is why I opt not to buy them unless it's something I'm willing to splurge on. Nevertheless, there's a big difference between being overpriced and predatory.

The problem that mogstation supporters don't want to see is that no one cares about ridiculous things like a cat set, but things like the pagaga emote.

This emote has been requested throughout SHB since it first appeared. Everyone asked for it as a bozja reward, and they release it now on mogstation.

You may not buy at will, there are 100 others who will buy and encourage the company. Soon, more and more items that could be in-game rewards will be in the store, in a game where you already pay a monthly fee.

Everyone also asked for the Hellhound mount way back when. They stuffed it in PvP as the new top 100 reward. I'd hazard a guess a good number of people who wanted that mount would have preferred it going on the Mogstation.

Putting the Pagaga emote in Bozja wouldn't necessary incentivize all that many people back into the content. Especially if it were sellable like everything else. Eureka has several rare mounts, minions and emotes yet people still don't bother all that much. Frankly, I think some people are overestimating how many people actually care about this emote.

they do run sales fairly often. the last one lasted multiple weeks. but also you could just not buy stuff?

General sales on anything that isn't a story/level skip, fantasia or previous event items only happens once a year during The Rising. Even given that, the discount on their once a year sale is only 33% which leaves things still far too expensive.

Suggesting that people "not buy stuff" is unhelpful at best.

I can understand why some people are upset about that. I gotta say thought I still bought it.

I tend to think that sometimes, we buy take outs for more or less the same price. Sometimes we buy a single t-shirt for that price.

But hey, I bought a silly fat cat pajamas in an online game instead o/

puts anything on there more in the realm of a luxury item. its like complaining that Aston Martins are too expensive!!!! they are, but you hardly need one to drive.

if its too expensive, save your money, dont buy it. the price of everything is going up.. why would the online store be any different?

Prices rising and quality dropping. They no longer even bother to keep Miqo'te unique carasteristics.
