Just to throw some numbers around, we're basically getting each piece for around $3.60 (double it if you really want to be picky about the gloves attached to the hoodie). A quick look on Sketchfab (a site where you can buy and download 3D models) has hoodies (just the shirt) priced for around $4 or more. This is just how much it costs to make the model + the time invested by the modeler. You have to realize that art is NOT CHEAP and you're getting 6 pieces of clothing for $22, not just "an outfit". That's 6 pieces that had to be designed and made by someone and probably took a few hours of their time to fit to all of the bodies afterwards. That is what you're paying for when you drop $22.

If you don't think it's worth it/dont like the clothes aesthetically/art related activities should be free or dirt cheap...that's your right. But at the same time, don't act like they're raising prices to screw people over when $22 for 6 pieces is pretty reasonable. At least from the viewpoint of someone who has made and sold models before.

If the designers were independent artists selling the stuff themselves that would make more sense but this is a huge company selling what the workers there have produced. There is also no question of supplying materials, it's digital. The supply is infinite.

Notably, they're paid a wage, not on commission.

Imagine how much the expansions would cost otherwise.

Yeah, and you're paying for the work they put into it....? Regardless of whether or not it's a huge company that doesn't negate the labor put in by the creator. So to me we're paying for the model itself + the labor they put into making and refitting it.

I feel like this is going to become a debate on the value and price of art which is one I refuse to entertain. Pay your artists. That's all.

$4 sounds pretty cheap for a large developer. I don't know much about Sketchfab but looking through offerings listed by popularity, they can reach a few thousand views, a few hundred favorites, and a handful of comments/reviews. I didn't see a direct indication of sales numbers but I imagine it's much less than what mogstation can output based on the numbers I see.

We also know that SE needs to pay for the outfits that don't come form the mogstation (ie free stuff) and I already worked out a really rough estimate of how much outfits should be worth based on the cost of the game. Mogstation prices are easily 10x what they should be going by default items, and you could argue a bigger number. Everything points to these items being dirt cheap to produce. The current prices are inflated.

This would be fine if the game was F2P, but it has a box cost AND a subscription. Those sources of payment should be plenty to afford to pay the modelers and art team.

It kind of is F2P.......with how much you can do in the trial but I 100% see your point.

To get ALL the features of XIV, you gotta buy the games, pay the sub.......on top of optional cosmetics....On top of mounts....On top of "Gasp" level boost? And even Mission Skips? Not many, if any MMO allows the player to buy a pass to complete the story.......P2W...cough....cough.....
(Insert triggered white knights on their white stallions....XIV has P2W features, get over it..........)

I will say this, XIV will be the best F2P MMO on the market once Storm Blood Gets added (If it gets added). I still believe they can make a hefty profit, by keeping the F2P (Sometimes sub) leeches like myself several expansions behind, while the payers get all the shiny new stuff.

It's never enough for Squeenix. Even during a sale store items are insanely overpriced. I couldn't buy anything this year because the prices are just too damned high for my meager budget. How do they justify these outrageously high prices? How do people justify paying them? $42 dollars for a mount? Who has that kind of money!?

    Give us a break, Squeenix.
insert obligatory, it's optional. You don't have gun pointed to your head for your wallet.

Strictly speaking, the expansions are optional as well, but if they jacked the price to triple the cost for 7.0, I don't think this same argument would fly with a lot of people.
