Sorry but knowing when mechanics happen isn't a addon thing.Let me make this short and sweet...
In my honest opinion, if you use add-ons you are cheating. Add-ons is why I no longer do Savage raids. The lack of add-ons is why I came to play Final Fantasy XIV from World of Warcraft starting with beta.
It has gotten so bad, that when you go into any pug instance with other players you can actually see who has almost flawless timing avoiding mechanics. Hence cheating.
Now the main motivation for this for me stems from my own experience. I play 14 on the PS5. I don't play on PC like I used to because of accessibility issues. PS5 players cannot use add-ons and many do also play on PS5 would also like to use add-ons but can't(even if I wouldn't recommend it). And yet again, this gives PC players an unfair advantage doing content especially if they use add-ons.
I already know I'm going to get vitriol for this post, but I don't care because I will speak facts. If you use add-ons, Square Enix needs to implement a detector for those add-ons and you need to be penalized for cheating because that's exactly what you're doing. There is no Gray zone to this, using computer programs to give you prompts in fight mechanics is nowhere near equatable to any other thing other than botting.
If you cheat, you should face the consequences of you cheating because it's exactly what add-ons are in ff14!
Every fight is heavily scripted, you can tell whats gonna happen from doing them hundreds of times.
Pls don't hurt the tanktop cleavage mod
Press F to respect OP's grave. The ICBMs have been launched and they're already dead on arrival.
How dare people know a scripted fight so intimately that they can respond to mechanics with a fair amount of precision. Damn it, how dare they. The audacity.. they definitely must be cheating
Thought I'd join in for this one!
Whilst it is my personal opinion, I don't care if people are using add-ons. It does not affect me as a PlayStation user until they use certain add-ons to try and ridicule my gameplay.
I am however strongly against certain ones that basically light up areas to stand in fights.
Damage meters are another, whilst they can be used for self progression which is true, they can also be weaponised in higher content to exclude others and therefore those people who are ridiculed do not participate again. This in my opinion lowers the amount of people doing higher end content.
We then come to the Whole PC has all these little add-ons and PlayStation does not. PC therefore has an advantage in the content doing their mechanics thanks to been basically shown on their screen, whilst PlayStation has to watch the bosses actions, animations, cast bar and the arena.
Square has stated they do not wish for anyone to use these - in turn are slowly adjusting their UI. This has been shown in the charactar models (can't remember the live letter) and also the recent adjustable size on your action timers.
In the recent events with the markers, I totally stand with SE. Wasn't it basically a maphack due to been out of bounds? While they cannot see everyone who uses add-ons for it they can certainly trace it to the source.
There was also someone who had party buff timers in DSR that got caught. I think it's fair to say that if you do it for one you do it for another.
This is all just my opinion though. It is nice to see SE taking a stance on their game and their rules so everyone can play in an equal and friendly environment.
Remember when Squenix promised to take the addons used and implement them into the base game so people wouldn't need to turn to third party tools for features that really should be standard to begin with?
I do.
Just wanted to add to this - no thank you.
An add detector would invade the privacy of the player and cause the entire XIV experience to be soured for the majority due to a minority. No thanks.
Add-ons are against the TOS. Those that use it are risking their account. That has been enough of a deterrent for the entire life-cycle of the game so far. If those that get caught get banned, they knew what the risks were.
The entire game's population's privacy shouldn't be sacrificed due to a few people being unhappy. Thankfully, Yoshi agrees. Also thankfully, if they added this, it would shut the game down in some of the countries it's currently open in. So hopefully, this never happens - nor should it.
Us filthy PC players and all our add-ons! Every single one of us uses a cheat add-on to raid because we're bad!
Or we don't use any at all and we're just not brain dead, who knows.
It's funny how you post this as some form of attempt to think my points weren't valid based on the times and the subjects that I actually brought up.
But this comes no surprise from players like this who will try to discredit a person's opinion not by actually speaking on what is being said but merely by implication.
Very pathetic Ranaku!
Why do people who reply to my posts tend to have like the reading comprehension of a 2 year old? I sincerely want to know. I directly stated mods that give you mechanical prompts for boss fights i.e. lighting up an entire zone to tell you where to go so you can avoid mechanics.
Another person who again fails to read my post on how I gave specific examples on the type of mods that I was speaking on. Absolutely amazing! Not every add on is cheating. Those are actual facts. Your opinion regarding that is irrelevant. I also love that you assume that people that play better than you, which is likely most that do Savage content, is cheating. You sound more like someone that wants to drag others down to their level instead of improving, a toxic casual, if you will
Remember everyone, it's considered bait stating fact that using third party applications is against TOS also known as cheating and sharing your personal opinion on how you find it to be detrimental to the game that you enjoy. Nowadays I am not shocked at all how many people who play this game adamantly support cheating specifically when I'm talking about add-ons that give you mechanics during boss fights.Obvious bait, but some add-ons/plugins are not for 'cheating', but rather for accessibility. Some aspects of the game are difficult to see or process mid-battle (like the colour difference between your own DoTs/debuffs and someone else's), and using something to help you see better doesn't mean you're cheating.
People can use add-ons to cheat, but not all add-ons are cheats. Know the difference.
These are the type of posts I'm talking about. Actual players of 14 defending using third party add-ons against the very nature and rules of the game. It's not just decoration, it's having abilities no one other than you has against design.
