Where is the problem? This is only fair. Meele have situations, where they can not attack (monk with practicly zero distance attacks), or have only weak distance attacks. So, it is fair, that they make the most dmg, when they are near the enemy.
Ranger can attack the whole time from each distance, while in motion. So, its fair that they make the lowest dmg of all dd.
Caster are between, because they can attack from all distances. But not the whole time (or can only use weak spells, when they have to move very often). So, it is fair, that they are in the middle.
Why bother using ranged attacks as a melee when the bosses lately have a hitbox that's basically the size of Earthly Star? You'd have to be literally trying to run off the edge of arenas to not be able to land gcds.

You'd have to put forth some impressive effort to lose uptime on melees these days like chosing a ranged spot for mechanics so you even get a chance to be out of melee range. And then there's the tree where the hitbox is basically the arena. Oh, and no positionals for good measure.
RDM, BLM and healers currently have to work more for their uptime than melees do. The beloved stop-and-go/ bait/ hike across the arena a few times currently don't affect melees at all. But you'll have to work for it if you want to keep uptime without Ruin II spam on SCH, without losing LS for your burst on AST, without screwing your mana gain on RDM or without cutting AF phases on BLM.




Name one fight this tier where melee have any situation they lose more than one GCD in, in an optimized setting.
Yeah nice meme, i play melee this tiers i dont have to use my ranged attack even once in reclears and i don't even need to think to get that result. maybe used it twice in prog and it's being generous, keeping uptime is a joke because boss hitbox take half the arena even tank that get a bit shafted by strat can keep 100% uptime with some adjust.
Caster not attacking is also a meme, there is some mecanic where im sure it's a bit trickier but i was rdm last tiers and it was the same things 100% uptime just playing the job well enough.
That reasoning balance is for a game that no longer exist.

Summoner can get away by doing a Bahamut > Ifrit Opener and Swift Slipstream. They really are the ultimate ranged physical caster.
