    Void Form Class? (Spoilers)

The 6.2 MSQ points us to a certain character who's from the Thirteenth, and has the ability to manipulate the aether of enemies by crystallizing them into "Memoria".

Now I know what you're thinking, isn't she a Reaper?
Whilst she wears a scythe like the reaper does, her armor suggests a hybrid class as the gear looks like a bard would wear but dyed black.

Just think of the class playable where we can transform our character into that of a voidling whether that transformation is a lesser voidling such as a flying eyeball or a greater voidling like an ascended angel (or whatever they're called in Fel Court of Troia).
One ability from the class is that we can turn our enemies into "Memoria" ourselves via the class ability bar that we get that fills up, then we unleash it's energy via other abilities.

That power Zero possesses was responsible for the Thirteenth becoming the Void in the first place (the Memoria crystals are actually black auracite) so I doubt very much it would ever be made available to players (by all intents and purposes, it's regarded as an abomination). Zero herself is also still a Voidsent despite Hydaelyn's crystal restoring her physical form to her original mortal appearence and so she's merely continuing what she's always done.

Transformation classes always have a tendency towards causing tall poppy syndrome towards other classes alas, so like new pet classes, I doubt we'll get a transformation class other than what RPR can already do.

Half-voidsent, to be precise. She seems to have most of their strengths with considerably fewer of their weaknesses. Man, that doesn't sound familiar at all.

Come now, leave Zero and her unique power alone. We are the master of like... 17 simultaneous jobs. Lore-wise most people cannot take up more than two jobs without suffering from aetheric strain. Surely we do not need to be the absolute master of every magick in the known universe, right? Let the NPCs and the villains have their fun.

I think it’s an important thing to remember, jobs as defined as we use them do not dictate what non player versions are capable of. This is a pretty normal things in games, even like Dungeons and Dragons, where a monster/NPC might have spells or abilities completely separate from PCs. Especially since NPCs generally don’t need to be balanced.

For example, our Scion trust allies while obviously resemble say Black Mage are technically something different; their thunder doesn’t do damage over time.

So, to say whether Zero is a reaper or not is not really the thing here; she is a reaper with access to NPC shenanigans.

NPC gear isn't necessarily an indicator of, well, anything. Hilda wears Crafting and Maiming parts, the Ala Mhigan Resistance is a mashup of different sets, and the Xaela tribes are all over the place. NPCs aren't bound by the same limitations we are, SE just uses whatever gear they think looks good for the part.

They're also not bound to the same classes and jobs we use. Y'shtola is listed as a Sorceress, Alphinaud was an Acadamecian pre-EW, Thancred uses ninja tricks as a Gunbreaker. Zero is in the same boat. I expect that if she gets added to duty support next patch, she'll either be listed as a Reaper and just quietly ignore the job's actual abilities, or she'll be listed as her own job.

For all we know Zero's attire is just the RPR AF gear of the Thirteenth.

My impression of Memoria was that it was similar to FFVI's interpretation of Magicite, in that it stores a primal's power on their defeat. For practical purposes it's probably related to Amaurot's concept crystals that were used to store Creations, except that these leak out aspected aether that can corrupt the wielder.

The main difficulty with this sort of a technique lies in drawing a distinction between it and other forms of magic. If I use auricite to bring forth a primal, is that not summoning? If I'm using crystals to form and break covenants, is that not void magic? A shapeshifter concept would be great though, especially one that involves partial shapeshifting. I really like what they did with Barbariccia's ability to partially alter herself with giant punch attacks.

Basically this. Think of the bosses in the Ivalice raids (at least the first two). I believe 6.2 even mentions this. Y'Shtola brings this up (or did in my quests, though maybe she only does so if you've done the Ivalice raids?), asks if Memoria might be like Auracite/Magicite (I forget which), and Zero says something like "Maybe. The 13th was a big world, so it's possible this power/these crystals had different names in different regions and some people used that name instead."

I don't recall the exact quote, but I remember it being mentioned because when I went and talked to Shadowlord on the first (she and Unu have new dialogue, btw, if you haven't talked to them yet) and my brain automatically said to me "Okay, so she must have been from the same region as Zero that called it that same name, right, since she recognizes the name 'Memoriate' and all..."

Is there a source that mentions this aetherial strain at all? This is the first I've heard someone say something like that.
