Maybe new tech or a bigger budget made something that was impossible in 2016 a reality today. Maybe unforeseen issues forced a planned feature to be cut or altered. Maybe the ever evolving needs and wants of the players made something that was a good idea at launch feel bad nine years and four expansions later. Things change over time, but that doesn't make the original statements a lie.

Take housing for example. People love to point back to that early 2014 interview where YoshiP said something along the lines of "you won't lose your house if you stop playing" and shout "HE LIED TO US!" You weren't lied to. It was true when he said it and it remained true for a long time afterwards. The fact that the situation later changed doesn't mean you were intentionally misled.

This is also why the devs tend to hedge so much when talking about features. Saying things like "we're considering adding", and such. Because players are crazy and if something happens and they have to change/cancel/delay people love pointing to old interviews and crying foul.
