    Borderland Ruins Frontline suggestions

Borderland Ruins is my least favourite Frontline map for a few reasons:
    • The matches sometimes last so long the time limit expires. Seems like it's poorly tuned.
    • I spend at least half the time just riding my mount between objectives (could be said for all maps but the others seem faster paced)
    • It seems a lot harder to mount a come back if your team is behind, compared to other maps.
What do you think to the following suggestions?
    1. Reduce the winning score from 1600 to 1200
    2. Increase mount speed by something meaningful but not silly (10%?).
    3. Reduce the invulnerability timer from spawning by about 3 seconds, just to make it a LITTLE bit more viable capping and holding another team's base objective.

I agree it sucks, but my solution would be to outright remove it.

They should decrease the invulnerability timer significantly and increase the amount of points you get for holding multiple bases. That should make the matches a little quicker at least. Maybe put a portal somewhere near base so you can move between base and mid easier.

I mildly disagree with some of these changes as they don't address the main issue of Borderland Ruins, and that is the layout of the map, it is a very big map on which you are spending more time travelling in between hotspots/nopdes than doing PvP. A simple solution to this problem would be to shrink down the map, or do things like reducing the sizes of the plateaus, specially the center, since its height makes getting there a very tedious process. (Compare it to Onsal where the main Ovool is nowhere near as tedious to get to).

Now obviously this map is the oldest map in the game, and the team has learned lessons ever since, but overall the main issue with this map is its size and the time spent travelling in between nodes.

Ironically we're already playing on a shrunken version of the map. It was probably TWICE as big originally and they scaled it down later after feedback. You can still see the original sized version whenever the MSQ takes us there, like in the last part of patch 5.55.

I made a thread about this but it's good that other people also brings up the topic.

    https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...-Frontline-map

I will sum up it up.

    - When they added the respawn invincibility with 4.56, it in many ways broke the intended match flow on Secure.
    - The points you get over time for holding more bases increases exponentially. Holding 1 base = 1 point over time. Holding all 6 bases = 32 points over time.
    - The solutions would be to increase point gain from various objectives on the map. Holding bases, downing drones/node, killing other players.
    - Lastly, 1600 points is too much. They need to lower it to at least 1400. Maybe 1200 like the first poster said.

About respawn invincibility, the reason it was added was because back when Frontline still had faction-based matchmaking, there were many instances where the team filled with PvP veterans would slaughter and outplay the other teams, to the point they couldn't leave their spawn point. It got to the point where the team with the veterans could win matches just by focusing on player K.Os, ignoring objectives altogether. Patch 5.18 made matchmaking random, ignoring which Grand Company you were a part of.

They already made the map smaller from its original version. Unlikely they will alter the map layout a second time. The reason you are spending more time traveling between nodes is because people are unwilling to push for more than 3 bases. Going for 4+ bases means you need to push into the home base of another team, that in turn means you will run into players that has the invincibility after respawning, making it very hard to capture and hold their base. Most of the time, it's risky and not worth it, making matches drag on more than they should.

I wish they could somehow make holding a base for a longer time grant more points. It's tedious walking back and forth from each base only to see the other team took it back within 10 seconds... It would be better if it was somehow made viable to send an alliance to each base and defend it from another alliance. Then meet in middle when the drones are up for the bigger team fights.
