Because you go from cutscenes where his expressivity is toned down, to cutscenes where he has gravitas and the situation is dire and he can't afford to crack a genuine smile... to the heart eyes. Again, even if he had the seeds for this, there is some level of whiplash here, and some people reacted to it just fine, while others not so much.
I think there was a transition in the early post-credits phase, where we go to "fixed on the mission and knowing it leads to death" Exarch and a more relaxed, open version that can have funny scenes like squabbling with Alisaie, and other characters like Lyna specifically remarking on the change that has come over him recently.

Even as a fan I do think the animations are a bit overplayed, but whatever. If that's how they want to play him, I'll put up with the slightly annoying cutscene and just remember the broad details.

I don't think they're equatable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't even think modelling and animating are done by the same people.

Whatever reason there was for the Hrothgar models, they may have been wrangling with it in one room while someone else (not interchangeable with the modeller) in a different room has done all their important animating tasks and now wants to play around with sugar cubes to make the cutscene more interesting.

Of all the characters and archetypes that should be included moving forward, another Sharlayan scholar should have been the absolute last thing they should've considered. I can think of a number of different sorts of healers that would bring more to the otherwise lackluster cast:

    - A male Roegadyn marine who fights as a scholar using advanced military arts, with a grand and rough around the edges personality who enjoys drinking and gambling. With a dominant and unyielding demeanor, he puts individuals like Y'shtola in their rightful place when they begin to act out of turn or unjustly haughty.

    - A female Au Ra shamaness from the far east who is deeply devoted to her religious practices and is torn between her love of her people and the world beyond the Ruby Sea. Seeing the world with fresh eyes, she forms a deep connection with the people she encounters and tries to be friendly, mediating between any rivalries between the party.

    - A female Hrothgar priestess who was sent forth from her temple to assist the party, following the fate foretold to her by the stars in order to safeguard her people's future. Despite knowing that she may have to perform the ultimate sacrifice, she marches forward toward her fate with unflinching conviction, with her truest feelings being those of deep affection for her travelling companions.

    - A male Viera necromancer who pursues the dark arts in an attempt to bring back the loved ones he has lost to war, plague, or both. With a standoffish and melancholy personality, he slowly comes to terms with his loss and despite his inability to fully restore them to their original state, their spirits never fail to answer his call in battle.
Again like the other times you've accused me of not reading your OPs is that I did and have read them. I just don't agree with the things you see as missteps at best and grievous errors that need to be fixed asap or the game will end before 6.55 comes out.

So the drill Sargent from the Scholar questline in the hopes he wasn't a Lalafell before being turned into a Tonberry or Alka Zolka if he wasn't a Lalafell who'd be willing to tell a "horrible" woman where her place is.

So literally the Ruby Princess if she was more like Shiosai when we first meet him, but didn't take the route she ended up on which led her to being a custom delivery person.

A character that going by lore would either actually been a ruler or someone who'd be next in line who in the first at least would have been someone like Tiuna.

So mash Nyelbert with Severian if the instant the others found out that they were using necromancy didn't toss them in jail as that sort of thing tends to against the law in most places.

So after going slightly dark fantasy, and never committing to the deep end of it, they got bored and they decided it was too far ! Too far man... Let's do a Berserk silly fantasia arc and sail to the elderly home island of the astral creatures to pick up shrooms and add lots of goofy jokes..

What you've posted basically can be reduced to "the story said no," but given all that's occurred in the past 2 expansions, the lore is nowhere near as inflexible as you're making it out to be. I don't feel like following an arbitrary rule book of lore if it's going to lead FFXIV down a path where we'll never be free of the Scions or have us still lacking the sort of characters that are common draws in most other games.

The Lalafell student adds nothing that we can't do without or that isn't already accounted for in the main party. Too much confidence has been lost after the way the Scions have been treated for the past 10 years to have some of us expect much to come from her. Some shady and unapologetic characters are arguably the sort of archetypes that this game is in dire need of, your gatekeeping of necromancy or other "evil jobs" was rendered null the minute they added Reaper.

If we can have player characters and party members that harness what would be classified as demonic energy in other games then control over the dead isn't that much of a stretch. Just don't go around raising skeletons in the middle of a town and just like in ESO, you can just go about your business with the locals none the wiser as to who walks in their midst. The aversion some FFXIV players have to these sort of jobs despite their prevalence in other MMORPGs will forever remain inexplicable to me, along with the rejection of the idea of having political leaders in the party (once more, in defiance of trends set out by countless fantasy titles).

I am however a little surprised that you two haven't used those words yet as you have seemed fairly fond of them. Also shouldn't we not be derailing Aveyond-dreams's thread or is it only ok when you and yours do it?

@ Midareyukki G'Raha's tail wiggle wouldn't have been able to happen back in ARR due to their animation know how wasn't that advanced back then. I think part of the reason why they've been showing it off mostly with food is due to players in the past wishing they'd actually show bites out of sandwiches ect. That and the only way he'd of gotten that tail wag back in ARR was if he part of Hildibrand. Though even back then I don't think it would have been as fluid as we got.

Anywho I find it funny that some people who don't like Krile due to her being boring also don't want her to gain a chance to not become boring. Just hope they do a better job than drop the ball like they did with Zenos post 4.0 death.
If Aveyond wants to tell me off for derailing, they're perfectly welcome to do so. And unlike the Fora Knights, they've never disrespected me for no reason so I'd be only too happy to oblige them if they asked. As for the definition of Fora Knights, think on it or don't I really don't care. The inquisitors on this forum will remain doing what they do best no matter which course of action you choose to follow to its bitter end.

As for Krile, I actually routinely forget she even exists but I hardly have a hate-filled hard-on for her. I cannot say I'm looking forward to it, as Yoshi-P and FFXIV have given me precious little to look forward to in recent days but I'll be here to see where they take her nevertheless. It's far more amusing to me how often some of y'all make wild assumptions that all us Zodiark Trancer Cultists hate all the characters you love like some sort of hive-mind. G'raha, Krile, Zenos, all these characters inspire ambivalence in me nothing more nothing less. I don't hate them, but I sure as hells don't love them and I'm hardly obligated to no matter how hard they're peddled. Would that some of y'all on here could see that.

If you want to get it off your chest and write about it, the most suitable form would be on AO3 ... which is where I go to read fan fiction.

Post a link if you must, but don't post it here. Please.

On that 5.3 epilogue, he does emote more, but it's something akin to the same expressivity we've seen throughout Shadowbringers. It wasn't anything too over the top. It's past that scene where his over the top portrayal has been brought up with things like his heart eyes, tailgasm, stuff like that.

Well, for one, that was a half-joke.

Obviously you cannot equate making an entire character model to, and I quote, "a sugar cube translating itself on the X axis". That's nothing xD

My gripe was that we were told that Square would "spare no expense" for player experience, yet Hrothgar experience is among the worst the game has to offer. Our ears were removed bc of technical issues that would require major changes (paraphrased). Except... eh? Given how modders did exactly that in under five minutes by toggling a boolean value, and amateur modders streamed themselves fixing headgear in a single week, that answer was sus. Wouldn't be the first time.

We could go over about how "modders aren't limited by rules" or "modders have a lot of time", but this has already been discussed in better fit threads. In the end, while those observations are valid, the way Square makes this game should have allowed them to allocate the required resources. Square does have rules and lack time. They still don't justify the way this was handled. If you're going to make a race like this, you should be aware of the commitment you're making and adjust your future plans to accomodate it. Otherwise why bother?

Translating a cube on an axis is nothing. The issue is that it came at a contrived time, and them zooming in on food animations to see their work looks like "Oh hey, look at all the graphical quality we have now!" when you have stuff in the game suffering from poor graphical quality felt in poor taste. It's not the animator's fault, but Square should have decided better on what they're spending money and effort.

But there are other threads on this, go read 'em.

They do be loving showing off their pointless tea time table models a lot since Endwalker. Can't have a patch without everyone chatting over a wasteful amount of food serving anymore.

If only they put the same care into modeling NPC house interiors instead of continuing the trend of hamlets with locked doors...

I too am tired of the infrequent, 30-second tea-time eating sessions. It's too much.
