Game does not start after launcher

Hello,

A friend of mine bought FFXIV yesterday (through Steam) but has been unable to get into the game.

The following keeps occurring:
Launcher works and he is able to log in to his account. Once he hits play to start the game itself, the launcher disappears and the game does not load. There is no black screen. There are no error messages.

After looking on the forum and the web we've tried the following solutions without effect:
- System settings restore
- Game data restore
- Full Reinstall
- GPU driver check
- DirectX 11/12 support on/off
- Downloaded Media Player (He runs Windows 10 N)
- Service account check (sub is running, licenses are connected etc)
- Switched off firewalls
- Changes to default browser settings

Any ideas of what the issue might be?

I'm sorry to hear that your friend has been experiencing crashes during startup. As they play the game via Steam, have they tried verifying the integrity of the game files through the Steam client? To do this, navigate to the Steam "Library" tab on the Steam client. From there, right-click on FINAL FANTASY XIV and select "Properties" > "Local Files" > Verify integrity of game cache". This will help verify that the game is installed properly. I would also recommend performing a clean boot on the PC by disabling everything within the 'Start Up' tab of the Task Manager. This will help rule out if there are any conflicting programs that might be running in the background.

I have had the same issue since the 6.2 patch and I also own the game through Steam. This is an issue for quite a few people who own the game through Steam. I opened a ticket, was told to do the things I tried to do already (which was literally every "fix" on both these forums and reddit), then when I mentioned my work around (which I will get to loll don't worry), I was directed to a different area to create a ticket and was never contacted. There has been no fix and no word from Square from what I can see.

For those with the game through steam having this issue, open your launcher and login, but do NOT hit Play yet. First, open your task manager and force close steam entirely. Then you can click play and the game should work. You can re-open Steam after this with no issues, however your game activity will not be displayed.

Most of these solutions were already tried, but to no avail.

Fortunately we figured out what the problem was in the end. Apart from the media player itself, it was also necessary to download a Media Feature Pack for the Windows 10 N-version. Once that was installed, everything worked as intended.
