Lines On Bottom Of Screen Only In Fullscreen Mode

Hello WoLs, I'm having a technical issue.

Many in fact; since installing this amazing game one year ago. But this one in particular I can't figure out alone, or find info on via Google

A few weeks ago, I started getting horizontal lines all over the bottom tenth of my monitor. They're layered in lines that display what's going on at the top of the screen, with properly-displaying lines mixed inbetween them. They persist until the monitor is turned off and back on manually; even outside of the game. Restarting the PC cold or manually does nothing.

I was scared it was a hardware issue, until I discovered the cause of them returning once disappeared is entering FFXIV in fullscreen mode, and then either alt-tab or win-d -ing out of the window. In no other situation or game do they appear, and if I play windowed they never return.

I made no changes to the game or PC to spark this issue happening. And unfortunately, I greatly prefer fullscreen mode. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this, or am I just debuffed into using windowed mode until the end of time?

Thanks so much for any advice

I'm running an MSI with Nvidia that largely exceeds the requirements for this game.

Try the game with your Processor's graphics if it has that, most CPU's in the past ten years have this, then you can rule out the Nvidia.

In Windows 10 and 11 you can open the Nvidia Control Panel app, click the 3D tab, then click on the blue link "Windows graphic settings", in the list click on FFXIV and set it to Power saving (Should list this as the CPU's in-built graphics), then back in the Nvidia app find FFXIV in the "Programs list" and set it to the CPU's in-built graphics.

Load the game up and test if it still happens.

Of course, it'll be poor performance, but you can then rule out if its the Nvidia card that is having issues.

If nothing changes, I would try re-installing the game, if still happens, on a different drive next.

I'd also try changing the refresh rate of the screen, most support 60hz minimum, you can do that in Windows settings under Display options.

Thank you so much! I tried what you wrote and lowering the fresh rate resolved the issue.

    You're the best
