It was pretty much the only way to get it. Any daily or weekly spawns were camped by RMT shells non-stop. If you somehow managed to get the aggro first they would drag mobs to the fight and then started casting raise on your people and then interrupt at the end so that you couldn't get your party back up. Then when you were dead they ran in and took the spawn from you.
TML, Squeenix never did anything to stop it.
I camped it daily for year, no drop.. You forget the BCNM up in arms was another farm. This thread brought back the memories. Was very few of us that killed AV let alone unlocked sea!
I'm trying to remember mine. I have much more fond memories from XI days. Maybe I'm having rose-tinted glasses cause I spend my teenage years with XI.
I like XIV but I made friends for life in XI cause social and making friends mattered so much more than in modern MMO where you can just hit a button and do your raid or dungeon.
After a few years they took most all those NMs like Argus/Lord of Onzozo/Valk Emperor/Lizzy/etc with major gear drops and changed the loot table. The high-value gear on all of them was changed to a rare/ex variant you couldn't trade(Peacock Charm -> Peacock Amulet, for example). They were still camped, but not nearly as hard and only by people who wanted the item for their own use. The old normal versions of the items were all moved to BCNM prizes.
