There really is a need, especially if you are lucky enough to have one of the larger houses; a mansion with only the default walls can look more like a warehouse than a dwelling! Even with a small house, people have the space to make extra rooms and most decorators will. So yes, pillars and partitions, including an Alpine blank partition you can put wallpaper on, are definitely needed.
As to getting an Alpine partition with a door, good luck with that! We have 3 so far, one for each of the original housing areas. Nothing for Shirogane at all. I'd like to think they are going to introduce more housing-area specific partitions with options like doors and archways for each, but since we are missing some absolute basics like default pillars and partitions, I don't have a lot of hope.

And when these items are finally introduced, let's hope the base of the partitions actually matches the walls because we've seen a lot of items introduced over time that should match earlier furnishings but which don't match at all. Not sure why it's so hard to get all the marble to be the same colour or the skirting on a partition to match the walls, but clearly it is.
