    The X noticed you and ran away! (Island Sanctuary)

    Can someone please explain the point of time gating certain spawns like the Goobbue and then having them run away for days of real time the nanosecond you arrive to try to catch one?

    I don't see how this makes Island Sanctuary more fun, it's just obnoxious and frustrating.

    Don't be sad. You don't need the Goobbue, the Alligator or any other Rare Animal.
    Craft what you have from normal Animals, Gardening.
    Take the Motorbike or what ever Item you want and leave the Island for good.
    It isn't worth the Frustration.

    It's just RNG at play unfortunately. RNG stacked atop additional RNG.

    Somehow an alligator evaded my capture attempt four times in a row and then on the fifth I caught him.

    It's entirely cosmetic so I guess they just want some options to be rare even if that means locking them being artificial scarcity.

    Personally, I've been settling with nothing less than the rare spawns I've been able to snag so far. Do we need these things? Nope. Want them? Absolutely. People just like having shiny things. I'm all for making them a bit less painful to catch because some of them can and do vanish for days at a time.

    It's not entirely cosmetic. The normal version of an animal will give you their common item first with a chance of a rare item as well. The HQ variety will give you the rare item first with a chance of the common item. This is assuming your animals are happy and are going to give you a drop. I'm not certain if unhappy animals will *always* give you something.

    But I agree with this thread entirely. The RNG on top of already needing to have an exact time, weather, or combination of both is a bit annoying. This was my goobbue attempt this morning. I've seen worse from other people as well:


    For anyone who may not yet have it, https://www.lalachievements.com/islands/ will at least take the guess-work out of "Is this spawn up right now?". You can also filter it to show only the ones you want, so that's handy.

    That's what I do.
    I've read on the Forum that feeding the Animals isn't necessary. The give Loot anyway.
    If that's true I do not have to farm Food for them. Time saved.
    I'll take the Loot they are giving and slowly but surley I will get the Mount. Mission accomplished.

    I saw a post awhile back about an animal that was super angry and left the pasture. I've only seen that one post, and I can't find it again, so maybe someone else can chime in here on whether or not that's how it works. Also, I'm not positive if angry/unhappy will always give at least one item...I've not read up on that, so I'll fix my first post just to account for that unknown.

    The point is to artificially increase the time it takes for you to obtain what you want, and increase your participation time with the content therein. I much prefer that it isn't guaranteed, really.

    I honestly don't mind the RNG being there entirely, but I do wish there were some ways to be able to upgrade your trapping skills as you progressed through leveling. Or maybe make it be something you can grind for once you're max. Or let us craft more efficient tools. Maybe make positionals come into play here (catching from the side/back = better odds, etc). Something! As it is now, it's completely out of our control, and it doesn't feel good

    If you got everything you wanted right away you would leave faster. that's not what they want. it's specifically designed to keep you around for longer as it's online service MMO since it technically will be around for a long time. unfortunately you have to realize certain things involving rng are not designed to make you "feel good" it's designed to keep you frustrated for longer so you stick around longer.

    if it was a single player offline game, the design philosophy would be different.
