Trigger Warning and Option to Skip Cutscenes with Suicide

Just what the post says. My father was a veteran in the US Marine Corps. His birthday would be in 8 days. It's a sensitive time of the year because he is no longer with us. On mother's day of 2014 he committed suicide via a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head, just under the chin.

Please provide disclaimers before cutscenes such as the one in "Alea Iacta Est" where Quintus kills himself with the pistol. I understand that FFXIV handles some very controversial content sometimes, and I would not ask for you to remove or change your content one bit. The poetic beauty of victory is heightened greatly by the soul crushing taste of defeat and loss.

Just bear in mind that there are those of us who have lived out some of the events you portray here. Thank you for providing such a wonderful piece of art for us to enjoy together.

This game often makes us cry. That's the beauty of it, really. I guess I just really don't want anyone else to have to cry for the reasons I spent the last few minutes hurting. I sincerely hope that this isn't your intention. And that you won't turn a blind eye to my plea.

    Thank you for listening,
    Six

    No.

Given all the various trauma people experience, such warnings would quickly make up the bulk of the game, and be spoilers to boot.

Everyone has experienced trauma, and everyone needs to learn how to live with it.

Trigger warnings in general are stupid and should never be used.
Each and every thing is upsetting to someone. So if triggerwarnings are used they need to be on absolutely everything. Which would be ridiculous, not to mention completely impractical.

Really sorry to hear of your loss and what you went/are going through - can't imagine how you must feel

Sadly, I do have to agree with the previous replies here. I mean, by the same token, should a disclaimer be added to the Yotsuyu backstory so not to upset/offend those who've experienced domestic abuse? Should the scene in which Emet-Selch shoots the Crystal Exarch in the back receive similar treatment? Those are just two examples.

And this is where suspension of disbelief and the separation of fantasy from reality need to be employed, because otherwise - where do you draw the line?

An option to enable trigger warnings is fine, I think.

We already have 1001 toggles to customize our experience. What's yet another toggle?

    Sorry for your loss.

As someone who has experienced a lot of what could be considered triggering, and some stuff that's even happened ingame to characters such as Yotsuyu: Trigger warnings are not something I'd like to see ingame, even toggle-able ones, because it requires devs to pick and choose what could potentially be triggering vs what couldn't be. Like, even the very first cutscene has stuff that could viably trigger someone. When it comes to content you choose to consume, it's up to you to consume it responsibly. That includes taking the ratings system and reading the warnings it comes with. Might be best for you to use parental websites and look these things up for yourself.

    Since you ask:
    1. a waste of developer resources to implement,
    2. yet another switch the user can put in the wrong position,
    3. a source of controversy over what does and does not merit a warning, and
    4. yet more code to have bugs in it.
    So, no.

The game's ESRB rating should be enough.

First off, I'm so sorry for your loss, that scene must have hurt alot.

Sadly, I don't agree with the trigger warning option because what triggers one person may not trigger another. The game already had themes of suicide along with other dark themes way before EW, from domestic abuse to assault to childhood neglect/abuse...so this isn't exactly a new concept.
