Whats the point in achievements that dont give rewards?

I know in the early days it worked differently with you spending the points you accrued from achievements but now that’s no longer the case why do they have such massive targets to reach with no reward?

The new island sanctuary ones for example. I get you’re not going to get anything for gathering leavings 100 or 500 times. But the next achievement jumps to 5000, but there’s no reward. Not even a title.

Why even bother making these achievements? Am I missing something?

Same reason Steam and Xbox have achievements and Playstation has trophies.
Something to achieve.

It's just that shop is easy enough to buy out and there hasn't really been anything new added to it in a long time.

Edit: It's achievement certificates that you get 1 of for every 50 points. You can spend them with Jonathas in New Gridania around Apkallu Falls.

Not much really. Just to say that you completed it. I see almost zero reason to actively go after the vast majority of achievements. The goals are definitely pretty outrageous for quite a few of them. There are only a few that I do work towards, such as the tank clear achievements, as they reward mounts - I only need PLD for them all.

Thats easy to answer, the more Achievements you get the bigger your E-P... grows. Seriously thats the same thing why i dont care about steam achievments or similar stuff in other games and will never understand why there are people out there that take this stuff very serious and collect everything there is. In HDRO for example you got for Achievements Stats that made your Char stronger, in other games you could unlock things like mounts, minions and so on (i dont count titles as reward). But farming an achievments just so you can say "i have someting that you dont have" is complete pointless to me.

Achievement points will also generally help foster a sense of completionism mindset in some people. It's quite nice if you have that mindset because it drastically increases the amount of throughput and content you get with the game -- This is also why I largely abstain from talking about content, or 'lack' thereof because it just doesn't really apply to me.

That being said, the developers do have an issue with milestones and making the most out of rewards.

I can be called a "completionist" for certain things, mostly because I feel compelled if I start something. They have to be something I see as attainable however. There's a lot of things in this game people who started lat(er) will never be able to attain, and definitely good luck with some of these achievements. I do not see putting some big number next to 10 achievement points as "content", and never will.
