    Are PvP portriats bugged?

No matter what button I press or set or change, my MCH PvP portrait will not show up when I play MCH in PvP. How do I set it properly?

Did you push update save set gear at char menu? Cause if you change any part of you gear without save gear set it will not update at portrait.

If you go to your portraits and there's a yellow exclamation point, you need to edit and then save it.

There's also a case where the portrait doesn't show the gear you have equipped and doesn't have the yellow exclamation point, and at the beginning of the game, there will be flytext "Instant portrait reverted to default. Portrait does not reflect current gear." In this case, you will have to edit the gearset, then resave it. E.g. I will unequip an accessory, save gearset, re-equip it, save gearset again. THEN, I can go back to portraits and get the yellow exclamation point.

Here's one more bug for you: it seems that the portraits always treat the visor as 'adjusted' (e.g. the lit/active state for the visor button in your character window). If you have a gearset saved with the visor not adjusted -- even if the gearset has no visor -- you will get the 'portrait set to default as gear does not match' error and see the default portrait, because -- due to the visor not being in the 'adjusted' state -- the gearset you are using indeed does not technically match what the PvP match is using.

Try changing any affected gearsets to have the visor in the 'adjusted' state (even if that does nothing), save them again, and see if that fixes things. It did for me.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

It is a frustrating and inefficient system.. but to get my portrait to be consistent I had to go through a checklist whenever something changed about my gear, glamour, saved gearset, etc.

    - Click "Update Equipment Set" when you open your character. It's two arrows top right of your portrait. (Hotkey: C)
    - Open Portraits menu, edit your class portrait and then it will update the gear in the frame.

As long as I check that these two things happen every time I make even the most minor of adjustments such as toggling visor or show/hidehelm, it should work.
