Thread: Ultima Thule: 6.2 Addition

This can be seen in the background of Ultima Thule as of the last patch.

Most likely it will factor into the Beast Tribal quest there, but lets have some fun and speculate on what it is till then.

It mostly looks like a shiny light, but from some angles it'll clear up and you can actually see the object(s.)

Didn't they mention at the tail end of the plot for 6.0 that someday new life will spring forth from the rotting detritus amongst Ultima Thule? It's most likely that. The first signs and buds of new life.

Granted, I don't expect anything to come of it within our lifetime. Stars don't manifest and host novel and unique lifeforms within a fortnight.

If people want visual reference for where it is: it's a little to the left of the gloopy thing in the skybox; it can be positioned behind the landmass that looks like it has the 2300AD domes from Chrono Trigger. Interestingly, it doesn't seem to be a literal skybox element like said gloopy thing or the Cocoon or Holy Materia lookalikes, it's physically present.

It's also not there until very specifically you complete the Stigma Dreamscape, so yeah, it's a near 100% certainty it's related to the Omicrons. (You can make it disappear by NG+-ing to a point in Endwalker's story.) They do tend to add the zone elements the tribes need in the major patch before the minor patch that introduces the tribe itself.

That is clearly Gaia's (attemped and failed) assimilation with Terra depicted in Memoria in FFIX, one of several references to other 'dying' worlds in previous FF games seen in Ultima Thule (the imprisioned Holy within the Planet's Core from FFVII and Coccoon crystallized by Ragnarok at the end of FFXIII can also be seen in Ultima Thule's background).

And it may just be me but the Nekropolis section reminds me very much of ruined Zanarkand from FFX in the design of the buildings, and the 'Absolute Horizon' at the threshold to the Dead Ends (the rocky platform which end up covered by the Elpis flowers) is a reference to Squall being lost in Time Compression in FFVIII's ending, right down to the flowers, to say nothing of the 'You're Not Alone!' scene of the WoL walking there (again, from FFIX but also a reoccuring theme from FFVII and VIII).

Really, Ultima Thule is one big shout out to past FF games within it in theme, ideas, and setting (and even it's very nature of 'remnants of dead worlds' is basically Wonderland from FF Unlimited, which was made up of pieces of worlds destroyed by Chaos, so take from that what you will).
