    to be honest here's my take on the graphics. i have a high end comp that can run the game on max settings not so the high requirements now does not bother me. there is a slight downgrade that is coming in 2.0. i am ok with that for multiple reasons.

    1. lower graphic requirements will allow a wider range of people to join in and enjoy the game. the more people that can play the more people that will play. the more people that will play will be more new friends to meet and a more successful game.

    2. the graphic downgrade is minimal so it won't really take away anything from how great the world looks. with the map redesigns, new mobs, new battle animations i will take a small downgrade to the graphics to have all of the animations they plan on adding.

    3. don't get me wrong i do love fantastic looking graphics, but to me the most important thing in a game is how much fun is it. who all remembers blaster master, stryder, metal gear solid, castlevania, ninja gaiden, final fantasy vii, final fantasy tactics? those games were not huge graphically, but omg they were so much fun it was hard to put those games down. that's what i want them to concentrate on making. i want a game that once you sign in there's so much to do and so much fun it's actually hard to sign out of.

    4. as long as the world is more immersive and draws you into the world i don't care if the graphics are lowered some, but i want to feel like i'm part of a living world and not the deal lands we have been in for going on 3 years now.

    people here know i have been very critical of yoshi and the current staff because i liked the original battle system much more than the current one, but i will not knock them at all for making the game available for a larger audience. to me it's a great thing and only good things can come from it.

    Plus 1 to all of this. Plus I hope it makes it so you can finally have more than 10 people on the screen at the same time and that people in town load in faster. Tired of being around 200 people in town but still feeling like I live in a Ghost world.

    just wanted to add a #5 to the above post

    5. just because the polygon count is lowered to allow lower quality computers to run it and play on the ps3 does not make the game any less beautiful. to me it actually looks better with improved shadows and the new lighting. they lowered the graphics, but looks to me like they increased their artistry within the game.

    i'm one that has always felt:
    great artwork and lively world >>>>>>> high polygon count.

    Is microscopic new speak for big? Seriously, the ground and foilage look like something that was state of the art in 2005.

    No, we're complaining about a fairly large downgrade in graphics.

    I dunno...maybe I'm just a blind fangirl.
    Sure, the day SE let me play for free I'll stop complaining. Honestly, how long has it taken them to get this out? Would it hurt to take an additional week or two to give us textures that aren't a downgrade from what we currently have?

    Current FFXIV- Graphics Best in the business, Poor Content "people complain about no Content"
    2.0 FFXIV- Graphics dumbed down (a not so noticeable inch that I can't even really tell its been downgraded.) but will be getting Content faster and better " People complain about Graphics.

    Anyways.. I'm 99% certain these aren't the top graphics "They are showing off standard user graphics" and I'm 100% certain a Dev response will come eventually explaining the quality of those pictures. or perhaps the New Website ( that's currently under maintenance now) will have better quality images.

    http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/

    And besides no matter what you say will get them to take another half a year to change the graphics just because of a few butthurt ppl.

    How to find out what the graphics will look like on a better system:

    Step 1: Open up the Lodestone main page
    Step 2: Click on the Version 2.0 tag in the left corner
    Step 3: Click on the first link of the roadmap at the bottom (the 1.4mb one)
    Step 4: Scroll to page 7 where it shows an actual ingame screenshot that was confirmed by the devs to be the game running on a pc with the new specs. (The one of a party fighting a dragon)
    Step 5: Let it sink in that this is what the game will look like for those that can run it at higher specs.
    Step 6: S T F U!

    Edit Step 7: Pull your head out of your ass

    You should just quit. You're clearly unhappy here.

    Also, they did let us play for free, for over a year. Don't bother thanking them though, that dirt texture is UNFORGIVABLE!!!

    The following was taken off the ffxivpads main page. Much love to PV and the crew for getting this out:

    "VentureBeat.com got chance to sit with Yoshi and see FINAL FANTASY XIV 2.0 running live on a Laptop, after he posted online his thoughts and explained a bit about the detail.

    The first thing we noticed was the high degree of photorealism in the title. There are dynamic lights, shaders, shadows, natural foliage, and beautiful scenery. Screenshots showed us Chocobo mounts and Moogles aplenty. The game looks and feels just like other massively multiplayer online games, with a third person perspective that Yoshida rotated around his avatar character, zooming in and out to show us the high level of detail.

    This is very good news, and its great to see the press impressed!

    We were unable to take photos of the live demo, which mainly consisted of Yoshida’s avatar running through the forest, near some NPCs and a large castle. His avatar had a tail and fuzzy long ears, features of his particular avatar’s race.
    * * *
    There will be a way for players to train their own Chocobos from birth, giving them unique abilities for taking a support role in-game, like a mage chocobo or an item-storage chocobo.
    * * *
    He was less willing to share when the subject of a release date came up. More generally, said Yoshida, he hoped to bring an early alpha test online by late September, which will roll directly into a much larger beta test. He hopes to have the game out sometime in winter (“ish,” he said) of this year"
