I don't know if anyone share with me this theory, I think the primal Shinryu is based on Azdaja, and recent event in 6.1 and .2 confirm it.

Azdaja breached the void gate the stop the invasion of voidsent aid by allagan, and stopped partially the allagan conquest by consequence.

What if the far east people during that era witnessed the event and believed that a God dragon capable of worlds travel saved all, it is literally what shinryu does and simulates, travel inside of interdimensional rift.

And the single appearance of Azdaja in game actually looks more like Shinryu ( Divine dragon ).

during the omega raids they speculate that its based on a an instinctive primal memory of a full powered midgardsormr. i think its simply speculation but it could be something.

It's based on what Illbred thought would be worse than Bahumt, which would logically be his father. Making a primal is weird and who knows the exact thoughts going through his head.

Yeah, it was all but stated verbatim during the Omega raids that Shinryu was a "vile simulacrum" of Midgardsormr in his prime. His appearance in O9 is even a more biological version of Shinryu's crystalline build.

If I recall correctly, it was outright stated in game to be based upon the thoughts of and image of both Bahamut and Midgardsormr. The Middy part is kinda odd though, since outside of the Warrior of Light (and Omega, for obvious reasons) nobody is really supposed to have an inkling of what his Firemane looked like afore it was extinguished.

Though that does make me think, what are the chances of Midgardsormr ever reclaiming his glorious mane of flame? Surely it's a part of his body, and not something that he's truly lost for good in sooth.

Shinryu is what Ilberd thinks a scarier dragon than Bahamut looks like, as someone whose entire personal experience with dragons is 'seeing Bahamut for maybe six seconds, and Midgardsormr's corpse on the Agrias from a distance'.

Any resemblances to real dragons living or dead are basically coincidence at that point. He probably doesn't even know what the First Brood is, we are not talking about an expert in Hydaelynian world history.

I might be remembering Vrtra's story wrong, but wasnt the voidgate near the crystal tower? Seems unlikely a ton of far eastern people were in mor dhona during this particular part of the allegan war with the dragons. Plus what everyone else said.

It was at the pinnacle of the Crystal Tower, the very same voidgate we (temporarily) reopened during that raid series to go find and rescue Doga, Unei, and Nero.

i think it might be an aether related biological quirk. he might regain it if he can regain what he lost on the voyage to aetherys.

According to Encyclopedia Eorzea, Shinryu's form was based on Ilberd's desire to create a Calamity to rival Bahamut, influenced by Nidhogg's Eyes' aether. Midgardsormr and Azdaja had nothing to do with it.

Shinryu's name was assigned by Doman shinobi who were keeping an eye on it in between Papalymo sealing it and us unleashing Omega to fight it. They just pulled it wholly from their own mythology. Nobody else bothered to come up with an alternate name, so it just kinda stuck. Zenos lampshades it during a 3.55 cutscene.
