If its as masterfully done as FFXI's chatlog then I'm 100% OK with a single window.

One chat log with multiple tabs (kind of like now) but laid out in more than just 2 tabs (per window in XIV)
Basically:
If you select the log then hit enter, it'll pop up like this:
Which is the 'general' log, then this is the tabs that displays:
which shows Say/Tell/Party/Linkshell/Shout/Yell tabs, which you can somewhat do in XIV now, but not smoothly as you'll have to give up or flood over certain data.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
So like XI's, gotcha. You can with the current log now, just not as smoothly as XI did it, which is what he basically stated.
Thanks but I triple checked and there were no mistakes in what I typed.
You could at any second hit + on the num pad, hit enter and it'll enlarge the log and you can tab through it, see what you wanted to see then pull it down, its history stores much more than FFXIV, doesn't need you to select it with the mouse to use it and scroll up and down, easier to read in battle and has a selection of backgrounds to choose from too.
You can call it horrible (which is not) all you want but its still leaps and bounds better than FFXIV's.
There's a massive difference between a chat window with tabs (both built in and custom) and one with tabs that only appeared if you expanded the whole thing to take up the full screen. XI's chat window had too much information and the filters were not that useful to begin with.
That being said, I'm in favor of the having everything in one normal-sized window with tabs to click on over having two windows simultaneously displayed.
