    Request: Optional Experience Toggle

Good day! I'd like to start with a huge "Thank you!" to the developers for this creation. As a quest nut and completionist at heart, I'm finding a dream come true. The ability to experience just about everything in game with a single character is amazing! With this said, though, I do have a request for an optional way to toggle experience on and off.

Coming over from a background of playing in EverQuest, World of Warcraft, and Lord of the Rings Online, amongst others, one of the very nice features that all of these games share is that they have optional toggles for turning experience on and off. Though it starts at 51st level, EverQuest has its alternate experience system. World of Warcraft has its experience disabler that you can pay ten gold to completely turn experience off or back on. Lord of the Rings Online has the premium purchased Stone of the Tortoise, that when equipped turns off experience. I would absolutely love to have such an optional feature available here.

While it's entirely possible to spread experience out amongst 31 classes here, I've yet to find a way that I won't completely outlevel entire areas and regions. While the outside world isn't exactly the most difficult of experiences, completely outleveling these entire areas ends up totally trivializing all of the content within them. Allowing for an optional way to toggle experience fully on and off would allow players to do outside world content at its appropriate levels. Please, consider adding this! I welcome any feedback and suggestions.

Just use min ilevel or below gear and you'll be weaker. Due to level sync, outleveling the MSQ is not an issue.

Otherwise people would use such a toggle to assure they got easy stuff in roulettes to farm the other roulette rewards by keeping their "roulette" job at level that assures they don't get the annoying stuff.

@Ilisidi: Thank you for the quick reply and feedback! Most of that went completely over my head, however. Could you (or anyone) explain how that in more detail, please? Yes, "parking" is certainly within the theme of this optional suggestion, but I don't understand how that would be a bad thing? If anything, it would allow players to catch up and obtain gear of appropriate levels, no? One of the main complaints that I've seen in any Novice Network channel is from players (including Mentors) that are grouping with other undergeared and undeveloped characters.

Level doesn't affect much in the way of power or anything. It's mostly a means of determining what quests you're allowed to pick up, and what gear you're allowed to wear.

Yes, there is also the learning new skills part. But. Due to the Level Sync feature utilized in all instanced content, your level, including stats and skills, are squashed down to what is appropriate for any given duty.

The only thing you truly trivialize by being over leveled is general world trash mobs, which never really pose any sort of threat to begin with.

Further, your level by itself doesn't contribute very much to trivializing anything, as the majority of your stats come from gear. Keeping your gear at an appropriate zone level, rather than worrying about having the best possible for your level, will prevent the effect of trivializing zone content.

In short, exp level is more about content gating than it is about power level.

If you are overleveled for the current area, gear should not be a problem. All story content is level syncked. There is no point to staying low level just to get "gear of appropriate levels" because the content you do will (1) sync you and (2) give you gear appropriate to that sync level. The cause of people being undergeared is never going to be because they are overleveled for the content. If anything, being overleveled should make it easier to be appropriately geared because any higher level gear you have will sync down.

Currently people equip bad or no equipment to assure that they only get the Crystal Tower raids in alliance roulette, because they are fast and easy instead of undesirable alliance raids like Orbonne that a newbie might need for Quest completion. In the future they would not even have to do that which is somewhat obvious when done. They could simply lock an easy to play job at level 59 and will never have to help new players complete the other alliance roulettes but they'd still get the roulette rewards which are intended to sweeten the deal of ending up in all kinds of content with a random selection of adventurers of varying skill level and equipment status.

If you want to farm specific gear, queue into that dungeon directly or use party finder or duty support as applicable.

The game gives you left hand side appropriate gear via the MSQ and job quests. Appropriate gear meaning, appropriate for the MSQ level and thereby content you have access to. The right hand side gear comes from various of those "don't do yellow quests, hurry through the MSQ, don't do yellow quests" quests.

It is easy top handle the roulette issue.

Make it an object you have to buy in the store for real money and don't make it cheap. Also make it lock the entire character to the level it is at for ALL jobs. Unlocking again being free. So Every time you want to stop exp you have to pay. That would probably stop most who want to use it just for roulette.

I for one would love a way to stop exp and have said so on these forums before.

ah yes, people would totally lock their EXP bars, as in not gaining EXP at all, just so they can get lower level content for easier EXP. makes sense.

i don't understand the need to reject this person's suggestion. lots of people asked for this feature. while i can't benefit from it ever, i do not see the reason to not make this an option. make an NPC somewhere that allows you to toggle it on and off. it would not be difficult to implement, and it would not harm those who do not wish to engage in that sort of content. and no, people "abusing" it to force lower level content for easier... EXP? is not going to happen. people will use it to get gear, to experience the game how it used to be (back in ARR) or just because they want to remain a low level for whatever reason. if people want to abuse a way to get lower level content, they simply remove their gear and not use the system so they can gain EXP.
