yes you allow to change your name because you can change your race/sex i don't think people want to have a male name on a female char or a female name on a male char

Last I heard, they said they'd look into it but it may not be possible because of certain data issues. When and where did you hear otherwise?

How changing your name a issue? you can delete your char right now and do then do a live chat with ffxiv and ask for your char back. Soon you get it back you can change your name can't do anything else but that and i saw someone doing that over and over again. It's a risk because you may not get your char back but he keep doing it lol.

GE: We’ve been told that with 2.0 you will be able to change genders, but can you change names? Also, will players be able to change servers at 2.0 launch?

Yoshida: As for changing names, we are working on whether it is technically possible to do that. We understand that this is a name you will be with for a long time, and want a name that fits, so we are going to do everything possible to try to do this. As for moving world servers, at launch we will be opening new servers, including more recommended servers, so we hope to be able to allow for such transfers at launch.
